AOC Changes Tune on UNREST Now That It Affected Her. [youtube.com]
KeithThroop comments on Feb 2, 2021:
Well said!
If a church creates a budget for the year in Jan.
KeithThroop comments on Feb 2, 2021:
Sure it is biblical to keep taking the money so long as the congregation understands what is happening and so long as the money is being used to further the ministry of the church. For example, the church I pastor was well in the black this past year, so we increased our giving to missions and sought ways to help those in our congregation who are struggling financially. It looks like this trend will continue this year as well, so I and my fellow elders are going to discuss with the congregation some things we can do with the added money, such as an even greater increase in local and foreign missions giving, as well as some needed repairs and/or updates to our facilities, maintaining a significant reserve so that we can also be able to help any families that might be struggling financially in the coming days. I should point out that we have quarterly congregational meetings in which we detail every budget item and all expenditures, so we have total transparency and accountability. We also ask the congregation to vote on the budget and any large expenditures. So, as our congregation continues to give beyond our basic needs, they know they are doing so and choose to keep doing so. Apparently they like what is being done with the money and want it to continue. In my view, the Holy Spirit is leading the people to give as they are, and we should accept it as His will and seek to make use of it for His purposes as revealed in Scripture.

While I would never wish to minimize or demean another person's suffering, I don't always believe people when they recount such episodes, especially when such a person has a clear agenda and a giant ax to grind. In other words, given her constant tendency to lie and distort the facts, I simply don't believe AOC. And, as I see it, it is entirely her own fault that I cannot bring myself to believe her.
Another Thomas Paine quote about 'tradition' and it's place in governance: > “Every age and ...
KeithThroop comments on Feb 2, 2021:
While I think I understand the reaction to a burdensome or tyrannical tradition, here Paine throws out the baby with the bathwater, as the saying goes. Of course we need not be irrationally enslaved to any tradition, but neither should we simply reject all tradition. After all, some traditions persist because they are good traditions, traditions which have come about at great cost and have been tried and proven, traditions which may be tweaked and improved upon but which should still be held onto and even fought for. For example, the traditions upon which the U.S constitutional republic are founded are worth retaining and fighting for, traditions enshrined in our Constitution, which has a mechanism for amendment precisely because that same tradition includes within it the notion that we will need to improve upon it, recognizing that each generation stands on the shoulders of those that have gone before and need not reinvent the wheel but only make it better serve them in their own circumstances. To my mind, only a fool wants to uncritically cut himself off from every tradition that has come before. I doubt Paine was such a fool, and I suspect that he would sound more level-headed if I were able to read all that he had to say on the subject. But, as the quote above stands, I cannot agree with it. I will leave other disagreements or criticisms that could be made -- such as the foolish lack of concern for succeeding generations -- for another time perhaps. I will just finish by observing that I believe there are moral absolutes, and, where there are moral absolutes, there will always be a tradition that needs to be retained, for these absolutes -- and the traditions formed by them -- will of necessity outlive every generation.
Dr. Fauci FLIP-FLOPS again... [youtube.com]

Here is something a friend posted over on MeWe, which I think is accurate as far as I can tell: > One of the marks of a liar is inconsistency. It's nigh impossible to keep lies coordinated so they all say the same thing. > > Here's an example from recent history. > > On March, 8 2020 — Dr. Anthony Fauci advised healthy Americans against wearing face masks. > > In April 2020 — The CDC said Americans should be wearing face masks for the COVID. > > In May 2020 — Dr. Anthony Fauci and the New England Journal of Medicine have admitted that masks are little more than symbols. Virtue signaling. > > On January 25, 2021 — Dr. Fauci told healthy Americans to wear two masks instead of one. > > And now, one week later… > On January 31, 2021 —This weekend Dr. Fauci backtracked on that insane idea of wearing multiple masks. The easiest way to tell when Fauci is lying is to see if his mouth is moving.

[rumble.com] Watch: Marines Refuse To Salute Joe Biden
KeithThroop comments on Jan 23, 2021:
The marines looked like they were standing outside the doors, so they probably should have saluted. Not doing so may indicate a slight, but I'm not sure precisely what the courtesy would be given where they were standing. Simply standing at attention may have been all they needed to do in this case. Had they offered a salute, then it would have been appropriate for President Biden to salute in return, and not to have done so would certainly have been a slight. Salutes are not usually required indoors unless reporting to a senior officer or on watch. That would be my take, but my memory is also not too good on these things.

Can an Insurrectionist be a Patriot?
KeithThroop comments on Jan 21, 2021:
As a Christian, I believe that any laws that require me to disobey God also require that I practice civil disobedience. I discuss that issue elsewhere in an article entitled "Biblical Thoughts on Christian Patriotism" here: https://reformedbaptistblog.com/2017/07/04/biblical-thoughts-on-christian-patriotism/ I personally don't believe, however, that Christians should take part in an armed revolt against the government, although I admit that Christians have disagreed over this issue through the centuries. But this creates a bit of a dilemma for me because I took this oath upon joining the U.S. military many years ago: > I, Keith Throop, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God." Although I am no longer in the military and therefore no longer subject to the UCMJ, I do believe that this oath is still binding upon me. Notice, however, that the oath says that "I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign *and domestic*." This may require me to take up arms someday against other Americans in defense of the Constitution. I have sworn to do so, unless, of course, I am wrong about still being bound by this oath. Anyway, I hope that you can understand the ethical issues involved for Christians such as myself when seeking to answer your question, especially if we have previously served in the military.

Psalm 40: David's Life - Chuck Missler.
KeithThroop comments on Jan 19, 2021:
I don't want to be a wet blanket here, but I was not too impressed with his misuse/misunderstanding of the Hebrew term *kārāh* in verse 6, which he takes as a reference to the practice of piercing an ear of a slave who wants to remain in the service of his master, as described in Exod. 21:6 and Deut. 15:17. However, I do not think this is an allusion to either of those texts because the Hebrew word in each of those texts is *rāṣā‛* ("pierce"), not *kārāh* ("dig") as in Ps. 40:6. Albeit obscure -- to my knowledge the only such use in the Old Testament with reference to an ear -- it is actually understood by most Biblical scholars as a metaphor for cleaning out the ear so that someone can hear properly. It would, then, not be too far from our saying, "take the wax out of your ears," to someone who doesn't appear to be listening. Yes, the word does literally most often mean "to dig" (never "pierced through," as with an awl, as Chuck suggests) but it is clearly being used figuratively here. Spiros Zodhiates accurately gives the basic range of meaning of the word in *The Complete Word Study Dictionary* when he writes: > A verb indicating to dig. It refers to digging, cleaning out sufficient dirt and debris for various purposes: a grave (Gen. 50:5); a well (Gen. 26:25); a pit (Exo_21:33), etc. It is used in several idioms and figures of speech: wicked persons get into a helpless situation, pits, into which they fall (Psa. 7:15 [16]); persons lacking character create problems and situations that catch others (Prov. 16:27), but they themselves will fall into their own pits (Prov. 26:27). The Lord opens His servants' ears (digs their ears) so they can hear (Psa. 40:6 [7]). The Lord digs a pit to receive the wicked (Psa. 94:13). Although his overall teaching in the video is quite good and encouraging, such linguistic errors really tend to stand out to me. I can't help noticing them. It goes along with my calling and my training, I suppose, and I don't always point them out when I see them (they occur a *lot* these days). In this case, thankfully, it does not lead to any serious doctrinal issue, but often such errors do lead to doctrinal issues, so it behooves us to avoid them whenever we can.

KeithThroop comments on Jan 15, 2021:
Until the last few days, I would have said @Naomi hands down, but @guru has recently had a flurry of truly cringe-worthy jokes. Still, however, @Naomi may have a slight lead due to the sheer volume and quantity over time. Admittedly, it's a tough call, and it may just be a tie. :)
How many good friends do you have from other political tribes?
KeithThroop comments on Jan 14, 2021:
Frankly, I lost most every friend I had from other points of view years ago. They either did not like my religious views or my political views (which are largely dependent on my religious views), and we drifted apart, or they simply cut off communication with me. Rarely was the decision mine, but on some occasions it was. At any rate, the lines of division were clearly drawn between us in most cases before President Trump was elected and things got even worse.

KeithThroop comments on Jan 13, 2021:
He gave the kind of speech that Kevin McCarthy should have given, but McCarthy's speech was a disgrace.
