Due to time constraints, I have tried to listen while doing some other things. It was somewhat interesting, but I was a bit disturbed by some aspects of their approach. Here are a handful of observations. 1. The point they made about pseudepigraphical writings is problematic, as I see it. They said that the early church wasn't concerned with who the actual author of a text was, that such a concern is "essentially just a modern hangup." This certainly misunderstands the Bible itself, as well as the concerns of the early church. 2. Although I agree that there is ultimately a shared history of humanity and that many ancient texts seem to demonstrate this fact, I do not think that ancient peoples were as aware of this as these two men seem to think they were. 3. Although I was encouraged that they wanted to avoid the dangers of what they called "synchronism" (by which I'm pretty sure they meant what I would call "syncretism"), I am not sure they avoided it altogether, especially when they looked to the medieval examples they chose to make their points. I, for one, do not see the syncretism of such medieval thinkers as a good thing. 4. There is the odd comment that "Christ baptized Romans" and that "He baptized Rome," in a context in which they are describing the way they claim that medieval Christians deliberately tried to read aspects of Roman history into their own Christian story. This didn't make much sense to me. There is a huge difference between Romans becoming Christians on the one hand and Christians syncretistically imbibing Roman history and concepts into the Christian faith on the other. It is difficult at points to understand what these men mean when speaking this way. It also seems at points that they think we should embrace and revive the same sort of syncretistic endeavors as the medieval thinkers they discuss. There is a difference between trying to understand world history *from a Christian point of view* and viewing aspects of world history *as somehow Christian*. It wasn't altogether clear to me which side of this issue they were on here. They seemed to alternate between these two poles. Their discussion was filled with very interesting details, but what they did with the details was often muddled in my view, especially when they started talking about Constantine. I eventually bored of it at that point. It just isn't my cup of tea, I guess.

The last time I was paddled in a public school was in Indianapolis, Indiana when I was in the 8th grade (13 years old), but I was paddled in a private school the following year. Both times were with a wooden paddle with a few holes drilled into it, and both times I had some minor bruising. Also, both times my father basically said, "I guess that will teach you not to disobey the rules, won't it?" Frankly, it didn't seem wrong to me then, and it doesn't particularly seem wrong to me now as I look back on it. My parents agreed with it. I was told in advance what the consequences of my rebellious actions would be, and I got those consequences. I would never have been paddled had I not disobeyed in a significant manner. However, I would never agree as a parent to allow another adult to paddle my child in that way. I'm with Matt on that point. Oh, and by the way, I don't think corporal punishment has been allowed in public schools in Indiana for some years now.

The identity of both groups is uncertain, and various solutions have been advocated, although none has gained universal support. Various scholars have proposed that the "sons of God" are (1) fallen angels (cf.
