Personally, I prefer something with a bit more heft. I can easily handle the recoil of a light pistol, but it's far more comfortable, and thus more accurate in followup shots, to shoot something that absorbs the recoil.

The medical establishment are just recently catching up to the snake oil salesmen on the effectiveness of vitamin D in curing or preventing illness. The problem isn't with science per se, but with the popular perception of science. A scientist will find a question and develop an hypothesis to explain it. Then other scientists will assist in testing that hypothesis experimentally. If the hypothesis stands up to experimental testing it becomes a theory that is used until the exceptions pile up high enough to warrant a new hypothesis and start the cycle anew.
