You are absolutely right about the lack of good conservative politicians these days. They come up occasionally, and when they do we absolutely have to jump on board and support them. At other times, we just need to support the least bad option.

I think conservatives look at leftist infighting and think we can just sit back and watch them destroy themselves. Left to themselves, they eventually will destroy themselves, but we might not still be around to enjoy it, and while we are still around it just gets more and more hellish!

I'm not ready to give up yet! We may not feel like we have much power, and some of us don't have your courage, but this can still be turned around if we all do whatever we can with as much courage as each of us can muster. They have power... If we have unity, creativity, courage and integrity, we can win this culture war!

I'm pretty sure it takes around two generations for Texans to adopt anyone, but I have no doubt that with your charm you'll be in in one (smile)!

Thank you for telling me about Slug. I too have become very disgusted with my Republican party. I am completely fed up watching my white history being rewritten with boldfaced lies. Statures of my childhood heroes be toppled over like white trash. You have a lot of fans on here.

Honestly, it's especially hard for conservatives to speak up because a lot of them are more willing to be friends with leftists than leftists are to be friends with conservative. Once you bring up your beliefs, you not only lose people you can debate with or even come up with a reasonable solution with, but you also lose your friends. This is especially true on college campuses.

(The rest of this is just going to be me stating my own experience, so y'all don't have to read if you don't want to.)

Honestly, even if I'm going to stand up, I'm not sure I can recover from losing my friends like that, even though I know something has to change. I'm scared. I have to go back to the twin cities (Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN) this August for schooling, I will be rooming with a person who directly supports outright terrorist groups like BLM, and I will be hesitant to say anything just so I can avoid confrontation and friction with my other roommates.

I do have a few lifelines, but in the end I'm not even sure how useful I can be to them when they're in the same situation as I am.

That’s exactly where we are right now. The biggest issue is a lot of Americans that “don’t see it happening” live in an echo chamber for their own ideology and as you said, when it gets to their doorstep it’ll be too late.

The problem is Americans have become sedated in their safety in the last half century, and fell into the "that will never happen here" trap that has befallen so many other governments and civilizations throughout the centuries.
Once you get familiar and confident is when bad things happen.

Well now, that's the million dollar question isn't it ? How to elect an official that doesn't immediately get drunk with power and dive face first into the nearest pit of corruption ? How do you defeat a cheater without cheating ? I dunno about other folks, but I haven't heard of a solution that I personally feel is viable. this is why you hear the talk about red pockets being fine. a prevailing Texas attitude is let people do what they want but if you bring that shit here there's gonna be problems. until we come up with a working model of the pro active persuasion, and get others on board, best we can hope for is your neighbors backing your play when the outside tries to come in. I was asking the folks around me if any of them would be down when these jackasses started threatening the alamo. i was disappointed. I'm not one of these passive, violence is the last resort types, but priority one needs to be save your resources for doing the thing that will work.
