Alex Trebek was Jeopardy. He's dead and gone. And they're hemming and hawing about who will replace him. Maybe its time to end things at a certain point. Same with Wheel of Fortune. Do we keep Pat and Vanna on the screen until they're getting around with walkers? These shows like many other things in this country, are an institution of American culture. They represent a chapter that has since closed. That America, like those shows, has slipped away under the door into the mists of time. What remains of them, like so many other hollowed out shells of a bygone era, harken back to a time and a people that has sadly since passed. People had good paying jobs with benefits and security. There was more to go around. And there was, despite party differences and preferences, a genuine political good will among the people. These remnants of our past remain to haunt us, to remind us of what was, and what could be, but what likely won't be again.
