Watergate was a coverup not so much by Republicans, but by the media. Anyone interested should read the transcripts of Liddy v. Dean to find out. That case reveals the media mudslinging that almost completely covered up the truth of the Watergate scandal. Its a public record. And Dean was found guilty of masterminding the Watergate break-in without Nixon's knowledge. Liddy sued Dean, because Dean tried to throw Liddy under the bus as responsible.

The reason that is important today, is that the media - which the New York Times proudly reported are 87% Democrat, found it could shape the narrative and convince the voter base of almost anything. So today the media is unapologetically doing so, as if it is their actual job. And I have spoken to "journalists" who actually feel it is their duty to steer people to believe as they do, because they are so sure they know what it true, and others don't.

As for Nixon, he was among the least telegenic Presidents, and the nascent television coverage of the day was new ground for politicians to learn to exploit. So Nixon was an easy target for Democrats and the media.

Nixon was as strategically wise as Trump, and was able to create a more constructive relationship with the Chinese than almost any other President.

And most people who are unaware of the Constitutional mandate of the duties of the Executive office, wrongly assume the President has executive power over the US. Not so. That resides in the Congress, which successfully hides behind that ignorance to produce many reprehensible laws, among the most egregious including the LRRA, which by 1981, under the ruse of regulating the health insurance companies, drove 276 insurance companies out of business, quadrupling insurance rates, and strategically setting the stage for the public to accept unconstitutional Obamacare. Congress, led by the Democrats, drove insurance and health care costs up, almost completely unnoticed by the public. Democrats to this day blame Republicans, the insurance industry, and "Big Pharma," a name coined to demonize the industry, for something Democrats did.

Nixon was blamed for almost everything the Congress did, including the dirty tricks the Democrats arranged to bug Republicans, just like Obama did, and which has been almost completely, and intentionally obscured by the media.

Sometime in a very distant future, the Democrats will be known as among the most corrupt and destructive forces in American history. For now, obfuscation, deception, blaming Republicans and increasing & exploiting the ignorance of the public is working very well for them.
