@TheSpider I don't rent but I do have renters. Renting is the biggest waste of resources anyone can partake in.
I thought WE were supposed to be ALL Equal.

No, racist implies arbitrary hatred of a group for their skin color. Key words arbitrary and hatred. I don't want non-whites in my country but that is because of disparities in crime rate, reproduction rate, and cultural differences, not arbitrary hatred.
Here is the deal IMO: the gov is asking, so it will use the data. Further, the likelihood is that minorities will actually put the information in, while Caucasians may NOT. Thereby indicating to the government - and all the organizations that use the gov info - will see a larger percentage of minorities than actual exist.

You don’t ever have an opinion without first hearing or reading others debate on a topic? You don’t even start to formulate something approaching an opinion? One could start a debate with a question...or a poll, even.
@no_show true enough - I suppose on the very superficial level I often do think "hmmm, that sounds like BS to me" - but it might be correct or well founded. I just don't know.
The topic of your post - I just don't know. I'm sure there are good arguments for the "race" question for and against. I have no idea really. There might be perfectly valid reasons for asking that question...or maybe not. I don't know.
I will say this though. I think it is possible to ask questions about race and national origin without being "racist". How can we ever expect to iron out the "race" problem that undeniably does exist in USA of we don't ask objective questions?
