I did quite a bit of public speaking at conferences and workshops to largish groups 50-300 people when I was an active scientist... and it is very difficult not to make mistakes. Granted, English is not my mother tongue, however, giving these speeches is an art and to make mistakes like that is to be expected.
We get so used to hearing very well trained orators that we forget how much skill is involved.
To make an issue out of that is really desperate.
