Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.I visited the Smithsonian Museum of Modern Art years ago. Some guy got a package in the mail wrapped in plain brown paper. He glued the paper to a canvas and it had a price tag of something like $3,500. Another was just stripes of different colors painted on a board.

I still say it's a gag or a hoax. Like the now old story about how someone who was browsing a gallery sets his eyeglasses down on a stool and left them there for some time. Other folks who were browsing thought the glasses on the stool was a piece of art in the display...next thing you know there are a bunch of people standing around talking about it in glowing terms - how avante garde! What allegory! Brilliant! Man comes back picks up his glasses puts them on his head walks away...crowd slinks away embarrassed...
I think the duct taped banana is someone trying to someone was trying to catch people being pretentious.

- the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.
By that definition of art I guess this "brilliant " piece is art. I won't say I think it is a little fruity, but I will say it doesn't strike me as anything too important. They are fawning over it's deep important meaning, but I will just say this work has no apeel to me.
