Are there any "left over women" around here? Do you know anyone you might consider to be a "left over woman" ? Watch this video and tell us if you know anyone like that and what you think about the content of the video

Sorry, this is gonna be TLDR for most of you

@ithink and @naomi , I said I would make an actual post on this thread but I've struggled for brevity. 🙂

Back in the late 60s and early 70s when I was a kid growing up in a working class suburb, all of the families in our street had a similar structure. Dad would go to work, usually in a factory or as a tradesman. Mum stayed home and had a few kids. Kids grew up, got jobs and moved out, dad retired at 65 and went on the government pension if the smokes hadn’t already killed him. By that time mum and dad owned their modest suburban house, of course.

The problem isn’t “leftover women”. It’s a lot deeper than that, issues like job security, falling real wages and rising costs of living and soaring costs of housing, rising expectations and the need for most families to have two incomes to have any chance of owning a home. Having kids is stressful if you don’t know if you are going to have a job next week, if you don’t know if you are going to have to raise them in a tent (for example) or if you will be able to afford to get their teeth fixed.

Sure, people can try to climb the ladder of success, but the reality is that putting in the hours of study and work required to be able to afford to raise a bunch of kids…. usually leaves you with no actual time to raise a bunch of kids.

Another factor is decreased social pressure to have kids. A person can choose to stay single or a couple can choose to have no kids and these days people are far more accepting of that. It isn’t seen as the “tragedy” that it once was. And maybe that’s a good thing, a lot of a##holes who didn’t even like kids used to have a bunch of kids anyway, and that usually doesn’t turn out all that well.

Another very noticeable change is that most couples consider 2 kids to be more than enough. And plenty stop at one. This obviously decreases the overall birth rate (I have 2 and that is plenty, btw).

Another is that it is “normal” for a family to need 2 incomes these days to have any degree of comfort and financial security.

And the big one is that fertility rates tend to follow a predictable pattern. Countries start off with stable populations with high birth rates and high mortality rates, and a fairly stable population. As those countries develop the mortality rates drop but birth rates stay high for a couple of generations, so the population soars. A fertility rate of about 2.1 is usually required to maintain a population at a steady level in a developed country. If you google “Thailand Fertility Rate”, for example, google will give you a graph of how the fertility rate in that country has changed since 1960 and throw in a couple of other countries for comparison (it has fallen from around 6 to less than 1.5 in that period in Thailand). It is enlightening to see the steep decline in fertility rates in most of Asia. In the UK, for example, a similar steep decline in fertility rates occurred between the mid 19th century and the early 20th century. In fact, in the UK the fertility rate has actually risen since the 1970s due to high levels of immigration and first generation immigrants tending to drag the average fertility rate up. But the overall fertility rate is still well below replacement levels.

The big divide between conservative and progressive opinion on this seems to be that most progressives want to favour humanitarian immigration, while conservative leaders tend to favour high levels of skilled/economically motivated immigration while deliberately indulging in right-wing populism and fear-mongering about immigrants as a diversion from that.

"while conservative leaders tend to favour high levels of skilled/economically motivated immigration while deliberately indulging in right-wing populism and fear-mongering about immigrants as a diversion from that"

That is a bunch of horseshit - conservatives only care about "immigrants" becoming permanent dependents upon the American Taxpayer. Come on in and come in legally...then get a job and nobody will bother you.
Actually Conservatives really want to reduce the dependent class which is a totally different thing from Immigration. Besides that the flood of people crossing US southern border is NOT immigration - it is by any definition of the word an Invasion.

"most progressives want to favour humanitarian immigration,"
again - bunch of horseshit. the Democrats under Obama gave plenty of lip service to "securing the border" - they also built the "cages" that they claim are now a grossly inhumane treatment of those poor brown skinned people - aren't conservative just evil...
What you call "progressives" don't give 2 pesos about the humanitarian aspect of the illegal invasion. They are motivated purely by politics and they are going full bore with the tactic of using identity politics (Race mostly) in order to build the biggest possible coalition of self-perceived underclass, under privileged, maltreated people" they can muster.

Furthermore, none of what you typed here has much if anything to do with the topic of the post.

@Naomi

This might answer your question about what he is hiding under the hat

Crikey Level 7 Oct 30, 2019

??

@iThink Keep getting an error trying to upload a pic.

EDIT: finally found one of his bald noggin that works

@iThink

@Crikey @Naomi
What does this have to do with the content of the video?

@iThink Nothing whatsoever. Naomi was wondering if he was bald under the hat. I do intend to comment on the video, which I have watched.

Sorted. Thanks, Crikey. 😂 🤣

The cultural repercussions are probably irreversible, at this point. Of the 6 children produced by my parents and 2 stepparents, they have maxed out at 5 biological grandchildren and 4 biological great grandchildren. This low birth rate is generally viewed as virtuous, but is cultural suicide.

Hello. I'm wondering on what ground this YouTuber calls those unmarried childless women "leftover women". Is he suggesting that they are "on the shelf"? That's got to be his personal view on women (my grandma would have shared his view).
I know women who are unmarried and childless by their own choice. They're also not lonely.
Individual choice as to how one wishes to lead one's life is important IMO.

He didn't come up with the terminology "left over women" - go watch the whole video. It is only 12 minutes and 40 seconds in length.
Pay particular attention to the part where he references the work "The Decline of the West" by Oswald Spengler...his book was written around 1917.

I would be very interested to hear what you have to say after you watch the video - formulate some ideas based on its content and get back to us - if you please. 🙂

I did watch the video, though. He does say "left over" and he assumes those single women are "lonely". He also says they're resigned to stay lonely or something along those lines.

I see a conflict in the video. In my opinion, one cannot advocate for individual liberty and choice (which obviously includes women's liberty and choice and which we all support) and endorse Spengler's view of women (the quote in the video) at the same time.

What he is saying is that many women regret it. Because their lives aren’t fulfilled with purpose. Many also do not regret it having found something else to substitute the basic human need for fulfillment by greater purposes. Usually by voting Green party.

@Naomi the "conflict" as you describe it is in women themselves. It is they who DO choose what it is to be woman. The future, the potential future and survival of the culture relies entirely upon how women decide to define themselves. No one really can do that for women.
The facts are in - Western civilization is clearly in decline. Prbably the most obvious indicator of this fact is the all but completely irretrievable negative growth in population.
The fact is that the biological time clock itself, the finite number of years and ova are the ONLY thing that stands between the myth and the reality of "women having it all".
Of course women past their reproductive prime are going to argue that they are "happy" - at least in public they will behave that way.
When the reproductive works have run out - what else can they do but to take the sour grapes position. "Just well - those grapes are probably sour anyhow"

Not all, you will argue. Then comes anecdotal tales about someone you know. Everyone always seems to know someone who is the proverbial exception.

True enough - not all - and who can have the final say as to whether or not someone else is "happy".

All of this notwithstanding, I repeat - Western Civilization is declining more rapidly with each passing generation - fewer and fewer live births and it is on the brink of irretrievably. No one can honestly say that women don't have a choice in the matter because it IS the choices of woman that set this downward spiral in motion.

Thanks iThink, for your decent argument - I appreciate it.

I still think it is too broad a claim that Western civilisation is in decline because there are many leftover women, especially Black Pigeon's generalisation of single women being "left over" (I find implying "on the shelf" is derogatory) and assumption that they're lonely and miserable based on his anecdotal evidence is a little too subjective a view for me to go along with; my anecdotal evidence says otherwise. Plus, if he is trying to connect the decline of Western civilisation with decreasing birth rates in the West, there are various reasons; inflexible work options, high childcare costs, for example, in fact, concerning married mothers and not necessarily the increasing number of leftover women.

In any event, we agree to disagree on this one. I rest my case. 🙂

Hello Local93bc. Not sure what Green Party has got to with anything....
Anyway, I see Black Pigeon's attempt to associate his view with Spengler's view of womanliness far-fetched. Spengler arrived at his view of womanliness in 1918 (that's when The Decline of the West was published). The social climate was very very different then.

Hello MaskedRiderChris.
"You're Japanese, correct?" 🤔🤔🤔
Keep guessing! 😜
I believe that Black Pigeon once lived in Japan (don't know how long), so maybe he feels he is qualified enough to talk about Japanese society. Meanwhile, I have friends in Japan, and my knowledge about their country is mainly based on their personal experiences and views (hence anecdotal evidence).

By the way, when I watch Tim Pool, I can't help wondering what he's hiding under his woolly hat. Do you think he is bald...?

@MaskedRiderChris It's not always a bad idea to heed unpleasant warnings. Cicero and Kasandra come to mind.

"There's also something smug about his delivery..." Ha! Agreed!
