The big buzz out of the UK: Queen Elizabeth kicked the rust off one of her ancient priorities and granted Boris Johnson’s request to suspend Parliament, thereby smothering any last ditch efforts to prevent, or at least further delay, Brexit. For someone constitutionally constrained from taking part in politics, she manages to find places to take her shots, and make them count. But it wasn’t the first time this year that she took a stand in a way that was undeniably political.

During the lead-up to President Trump’s state visit, he managed to do what he does best: disrupt. That’s what he is; it’s what got him elected; he’s a disrupter. When he observed that Boris Johnson would make a great replacement for the lame duck Theresa May, more than a few pompous feathers were ruffled. Not just stuffy traditionalists offended that a barbarian would inject himself into British politics, but globalists and deep staters everywhere, desperate to squash rising populist sentiment on the continent and here at home as well.

Then, to the horror of aides and advisors up and down the political kulturscape, he got into it with the renegade princess herself, Meghan Markle, charactizing her comments about him as “nasty.”

GASP! HORRORS!! Why, it just isn’t done. Surely the visit should be postponed, or at least downgraded to something besides a state visit, as happened on The President’s first trip to the UK. Even the mayor of Londonstan announced he would not attend a dinner in the ruffian’s honor. There were even rumblings from the Royals themselves. Surely, a more timid queen would have chosen a safer, less confrontational approach, one more befitting a constitutional monarch.

Nope. Wielding the considerable power she still holds over the spirit and soul of her nation, she laid out the full-Monty for the President and First Lady, ignoring the likes of Mayor Khan, the media and wise counsel of her spineless lackeys, and making sure the future king and queen were in obedient attendance. And then, in a firm, clear voice that dispelled any questions about her mental acuity, she toasted The President in a soliloquy that placed him firmly in the pantheon of American presidents and military leaders dating back to the victorious triumph in Europe, presidents and leaders, as she reminded us, she had all met and known personally.

It was a stunning display of British subtlety, a way of telling both her countrymen and ours, that she considers our president to be a member of the club, the real club, the one that truly matters. And now she has taken a stand for national sovereignty and against the decrepit EU, bolstered, no doubt, by the presence, on this side of the Atlantic, of a strong leader she can count on to have her back.

And so, as an American patriot who will forever cherish the events that broke us away from the British Crown, I nonetheless wish to raise a glass and proclaim, Long Live the Queen.

Don’t ever count her out.

Great post - very well written. Should be published on American Thinker or some other common sense website.

Aw... shucks.

Thanks

It seems to me the most passive decision she could have made. But don't let that get in the way of your narrative...

What would a more aggressive move have been for her, in your opinion?

@Edgework To deny the request of the more democratically legitimate prime minister.

@MaskedRiderChris You think the Queen overruling Parliament would be a more passive decision?

Hello. Don't you like the British, or something? I'm curious.

Naomi Level 8 Aug 31, 2019

I’m curious what is was in my post that would lead you to ask that question.

"the lame duck Theresa May"
"the renegade princess herself, Meghan Markle" (she isn't British but she is a Royal now)
"as an American patriot who will forever cherish the events that broke us away from the British Crown"
These lines puzzle me.

@Naomi
What’s puzzling?

May was clearly on the way out. Her time was up and she acknowledged it.

Stories of Meghan Markle’s difficulty adapting to royal protocol are rife, even the British media. I’m certainly not the first to suggest that she’s a renegade.

I’m an American. I celebrate my nation’s heritage. Just because I love my country, it does not follow that I disparage other countries. If that’s a problem for you, cope.

Frankly, you puzzlement says much about you and your preconceived attitudes. I don’t want to argue with you, particularly since you seem to be sympathetic to the British, and my post, your puzzlement notwithstanding, was quite effusive in my praise of that most venerable of English institutions. Perhaps if you read it again?

Wow, Edgework, you assume a lot about me - amazing! I was simply pointing out the "wording" you chose to use, from which I was trying to get nuance.Anyway, I rest my case.

@Naomi
Maybe this will help: "Lame Duck" is a term used to describe a politician or a political administration that has served the maximum allowed years and or one who has lost an election and is serving out the remainder of their final year in office or will for whatever other reasons NOT be vying for renewed term in office. A lame duck as it were is one that is on its way out regardless whatever else might happen. Theresa May in American Parlance was a "Lame Duck".
