That reminds me of something Steven Weinberg said. The use of philosophers to science is to counter the bad ideas of other philosophers.
We are all philosophers in our own way. We largely experience life through the metaphysical and explain it in metaphysical terms. We have in a way become a form of "artificial" intelligence because we think in terms of languages, colloquial, formal, math, logic, etc. all of which are abstract or "artificial". That is what Weinberg doesn't get as a natural philosopher. His scientific reality is in the end just a "philosophy" more precisely aligned with reality.
