Observing the governments around the world, for the last few years, I have a different view on the function and role of the goverment. I'm not sure "when" goverment refuses to be what we like to think of it should be, I think its always bad, just degrees of bad and gets worse over time. Its inherent to the systems of goverment we see around the world today.

I’m not sure if that is the primary purpose of the government. I have not seen much evidence, if at all, that it was ever the case. It is, however, the primary wish of citizens for the government to preserve the peace and keep citizens safe.

There are individuals in the government apparatus that could be argued to have shared the "purpose" you mentioned, and we usually call them statesmen.

Someone made a distinction between a statesman and a politician. A politician thinks of the next election, and a statesman thinks of the next generation.

But noble individuals aside, the government apparatus itself was and is, by and large, a parasitic organism that extorts money to keep itself in power. And in a republic, this process might start fairly benign if it could actually start from scratch, like in America, but in most cases and places, it already starts corrupt and gets worse over time.

While the American war for independence was a success for the formation of a new Republic, it was also an anomaly. The French tried the same just 13 years later, with completely different results and the same less as ideal start that has been true for virtually every other attempt to form a new republic ever since. This is because they all started with an already corrupt and problematic foundation.

If today’s Americans attempted to replicate what America’s funders did 245 years ago, they would most likely face the same problems as the rest of the world. Starting from scratch allows for idealism to be the foundation. Building on an existing corrupt and broken structure is far less idealistic and often very ugly.

This can be seen in America today, where with every new election, statesmen are outnumbered by politicians in a corrupt system of bureaucracy that makes good governance a serious difficulty.

DeSantis down in Florida, is a bright example of hopeful governance, and even in his own state he is fighting backstabbers, lefty lunatics, and the federal government on top of cartels and all that. I would not throw the baby out with the bathwater. There are some good points about the system, but its many flaws far outweigh the bright points in my view.

Just my 2 cents on the topic that, during this scamdammic, I think many of us were forced to re-examine our previous assumptions and elections.
