Well, you want to be very careful with the Human Rights Doctrine. Its like international Sharia. And that is what is competing against in UK. So there is very little room for "free speech." American style. But even in America, as we have seen, censorship can be outsourced to big tech platforms in exchange for the immunity.... section 230. Thereby creating a public/private partnership similar to what was seen as fascism in Italy, on paper at least. Eventually the goverment comes for everything.

And we have also seen spying on American citizens under Patriot Act and various other illegal activities, and now after Jan 6th its quite clear that if they can't censure individuals, they can frame them or simply hold them with no bail or charges under bogus pretense of "insurrection".

Also don't forget: Insurrection Act of 1807

The Insurrection Act of 1807 is a United States federal law that empowers the President of the United States to deploy U.S. military and federalized National Guard troops within the United States in particular circumstances, such as to suppress civil disorder, insurrection, or rebellion.

So technically, Biden Regime can use Big tech, Mainstream media, their brown-shirts on the ground like BLM and Antifa, covid restrictions, or simply Insurrection Act to suppress political dissidents.

And as we have seen Biden claims the unvaccinated are the pandemic. So he declared war on half the country or more.

I would not put too much faith in Bill of Rights.

That being said, Freedom of Speech is something that lacks standards of quality in American system. And if you don't measure what someone says based on the quality of the arguments in the appropriate context, you inevitably, especially today with the new technology, democratize the values of the country. This might not seem like a bad thing, but its impossibly to deny that democratization of standards and tastes leads to dumbing everything down to lowest common donaminator in order to become most popular,

Music, Arts, Cinema, Literature all of it has gone down in quality and standards, because quantity has overpower quality. The good voices are drowning in too many bad voices and you get overall quality going down.

This is a cautionary tale for free speech absolutists. If you don't have a place and method of communication that is based on high standards and anyone can say whatever the want, however they won't, it won't be long before bad ideas overpower good ideas, simply by order of magnitude. And than as we have seen, free speech as concept itself comes under threat.

All that being said, free speech, contrary to belif of some is not the only way to vent frustrations of society.

Entertainment and social events, such as concerts, sports, festivals etc. Can be great as pressure valves for society that is frustrated and needs a distraction. If you limit that as they did with lock-downs and than you limit conversations about it, well when you make the communication impossible you make escalations inevitable.

Hate Speech Laws, off course is all about orthodoxy and consulship, much like blasphemy laws. But where blasphemy laws can be beneficial if rooted in solid functions of traditional religion, the so called "hate speech laws" have no defined limits or reason, they are despotic. Blasphemy laws can be, but are often not.

America did not have much problem with "free speech" for the first 150 years or so, because it was mostly driven by Judeo Christian values as a secular nation. However because there was no law to limit bad ideas, in fact it was all about spreading idea, than after the cultural values based on shared civil religion started to fade away, because of new generations, technological advancements in communication and travel , immigration, than with those shared religious values being undermined and no law to protect against bad ideas, America slowly started to increase the number of bad ideas and who gets to spread it, until eventually you get to Hipies and counter culture movement of the 1970's and all the way to political correctness and censorship of today.

Free speech, much like democracy, does not lead to good society with high moral standards by default. There must be something else, usually a religion and culture based on it, that makes use of free speech and democracy as a mechanism against tyranny.

There is a lot of talk about free speech and democracy protection, but really they won't save a nation, what we should be more concerned about is moral values and family values. When those erode away, free speech and democracy laws cannot save a nation. And if politics is downstream culture, than politics will change as well.

Democracy is simply a system of voting that can be corrupted or cooersed or seduced into voting for anything, including hate speech laws.

So we have to worry about cultural norms more than legal ones, since change in culture will force change in laws, just as much as change in laws can change a culture.

And the yearning for larger meanings in politics will find undesirable expression. Fundamentalists will rush in where liberals fear to tread. They will try to clothe the naked public square with the most narrow and intolerant moralisms.”
