No, I am not missing any points.
You simply don’t understand how funding works.
There are several sources of public funding.
Income tax, Sales tax, levies, tolls, rates, even lotteries.
A certain amount of money and resources are needed to provide certain services such as roading or defence.
A society decided how to find these activities. It can choose the Scandinavian model where there are no rates and levies, however income tax is 50%.
Or it can choose the US model where taxes are 30% however you also pay levies on fuel etc.
Al countries have variations.
In the end the same amount of money is needed for a certain level of service.
You just have to choose how much is paid by all through general tax and how much is paid through targeted taxes.
So you are unable to do basic math (2% of $5,3tr is not equal to $116b??!),
And you are unable to follow simple logic. (Some form of tax
Is needed to fund essentially services, however we should abolish this tax??!)
And no, the vast majority of Income tax does not go to welfare or is wasted. The majority of income tax provides essential services.
Some of it is lost through corruption depending on the country and government. Some of it is used for social welfare.
Not all or the majority.
