We are in a world of hurt if anything serious ever happens. During the great depression large portions of the population were still rural and self dependent. Most of the rural population still didn't even have electricity and were dependent on peasant ways of preserving food that had been passed down from time immemorial. They were prepared for absolute poverty in ways no segment of the current population is. Hospitals were mostly some place to go and die and the people that worked in them were harden individuals.

Now the medical industry is actually effective and that added value means there is unlimited demand. The downside is that there is as always with unlimited demand no limit to costs. Ironically despite high wages there is a shortage of people wanting to work in healthcare. That isn't totally surprising when you look at the luxurious working conditions in places like the tech industries. Most physicians will also tell you that they could have gotten jobs in the financial industry that pay as well and without the unpleasantness that comes with being a doctor. Where there are public health systems the cracks are starting to really show because those qualified to be doctors are uninterested in the relatively low pay and places like Britain are almost totally dependent on Foreign imports for doctors. The way public systems control demand is through long waiting periods in the US cost. Both systems are really under a lot of stress due to the supply and demand problem.

The problem is compound because of low ethics. Unsurprisingly as the West has embraced natural philosophy (science) the problem of amorality reflects the amoral nature of natural systems. Morality requires a system that respects human dignity but you can not have human dignity without freewill and agency. As we have become more technologically sophisticated when have become philosophically less sophisticated. Amorality and confused ethics are the order of the day and that applies to healthcare as it does to every other occupation where ethics have generally declined and subsequently work ethics. The social engineers such as those at the WEF should have anticipated this but they are not terribly sophisticated but have taken on that mantel of technocrats as have public workers. It's not entirely a problem of declining general intelligence, although that plays a role, it's mostly the inability to find meaning in a naturalistic philosophy. The technocrats instead of looking inward to see what is wrong with their philosophy have blamed the general population. Their answer is to reset that population with more compliant individuals so that their social engineering can work it's magic. Unfortunate that philosophy is as unsophisticated as any other based on magic not reality.
