Socialism's need for ultimate power will keep everything from growing. It's a stagnating ideology that promises Utopia for the masses and gives them mediocrity and sameness in its stead.

Most people realize that socialist institutions that are introduced in a free market nation, like public education and single-payer public health care only survive off the backs of the free market.

Growth is necessary but everything goes through the same cycle of life - Birth, growth, decay, death.

Mankind, civilizations, races, species, are all subject to death. The attempt of life is to grow unless you are a socialist then the attempt is to decay and destroy all growth. Your claim of capitalism's need for perpetual growth is oxymoronic. If we are to survive as a species we have to discover how to expand (grow) our existence beyond this planet. The socialist would rather, for his own purposes, kill off most of the population on the planet than continue to grow.

It's the same under any form of government. Socialism tends to disincentivize the productive though so everyone; except government officials, of course, winds up at the lowest common denominator - without sufficient food, shelter, education, and care

I remember the bread lines of the old USSR and the Gulag, where millions starved or died in work camps and railcars. In your view, I suppose they had sufficient food, shelter, education and care.

Get off your morally superior high horse and step into the real world, Willy. People are pouring across your border because your government promises, free food, shelter, education and care. How do they deliver that? They take it out of the wealth of the economy, the production of the nation. From the productive people who are becoming more burdened and fewer in numbers every day. Then what, Willy?

For crying out loud, your government has put you over $30 trillion in debt? Is there any wonder why socialism looks attractive? There is no economy under socialism.

I don't know anything about you but you seem comfortable. What would you do if you lost your capitalist provided paycheque? Your feigned moral superiority will not sustain you then. You think the capitalist economy does not provide sufficient food, shelter, education and care? So the Biden administration's solution to that problem is to traffic in a few million more people over your southern border?

The book really isn't a statement about the soviet union but more a comment on how inhumane humanity can become.

I suppose you are helping people to understand their exploited lives. It gives you purpose and you hold that superior position - at least until you don't.

Some socialists do actually think they are helping by getting free stuff for those whom they feel are lesser than them. Unfortunately, it only degrades them further.

There is a bit of a debate going on right now about "affirmative action". It's been a long time coming.
The law is about to be struck down by the Supreme Court as unconstitutional. Diversity, Inclusion and equity are a part of that debate where meritocracy is ignored and DIE becomes the criteria for advancement. You wind up with people wondering if they are able to do the job they have acquired and feeling insecure. But people like yourself will assuage their concerns and tell them they are entitled. The result is that important positions that are dealing with people's lives are filled by SIE quotas instead of those competent enough to do the job, you know, like Joe Biden, Pete Buttegieg. Sometimes they just serve a purpose to undermine the safety and welfare of the people- like Dr. Fauci. He isn't so unqualified as he is corrupt.

There are probably a hundred or more different social welfare agencies in every city existing on grants and funding to help the unfortunate. It may not be too lucrative a business but it is a growth industry. All the help they provide seems to turn up more poor people all the time. As long as people are weak and needy, the "community activist" will have a career. Mobilizing others, to lobby for more free stuff. Oh, and social justice.

Now I can't say there are zero social injustices in America. But there is definitely less honor and increasing corruption. This is "progress" because more control over the population can be exerted. When people are treated like children and indoctrinated in the schools as to what is right and wrong they will always remain like children and need the guiding hand of the State. The State can become very cruel. You could go to jail if you don't comply.

People develop a sense of worth when they help others. You are helping others and you feel good about yourself. You are helping them understand how exploited they are and how, collectively they can accomplish change to make things better for themselves to get more free things. Even though the change requires a bit of disruption - perhaps a riot or two or maybe even the entire restructuring of society. This isn't getting them to develop a sense of self worth though. This is helping them to think in terms of using force to create change. Force becomes violence and we see a lot of that. We can't force people to help, I guess. You can't continue to "help" people forever without them feeling a bit unworthy. They have to be able to feel they can help others. What the socialist wants is help to destroy a social structure and replace it with one he controls. Who is exploiting whom in such case?

@WilyRickWiles As I thought, you have not read "The Gulag Archipelago" the author actually lived through the whole of Stalin's dictatorial reign. Furr is a revisionist. I'd rather go with the account of someone who lived through it.

America has a prison system for criminals. You think it is full of political prisoners? Are the criminals guilty of crimes? I'll grant that some may not be but the majority have committed crimes and are not there for political reasons. That you would even consider the work camp system of the USSR similar in any respect to the American system or any western system is an incredible stretch of imagination.

As to famine - "The deadliest famine in history took place in China between 1959 and 1961." Of course, this was Mao's failed plan and it decimated his own people.

I don't know which US and British navy famines you are referencing but famines have occurred throughout history some may have been engineered in times of war but they weren't so stupid as to purposely kill off their own people.

And that is a big point, socialists have killed off a lot of their own citizens to gain power, and after they gain power they are busy crushing all political dissent or individuals that are strong and may pose a challenge to their dictatorial powers. Lots of people are interred in concentration camps. Nazi's and communists were the worst.

Western civilization has some socialists that wish to collectivize the nations of the world and it looks like famine may be a big part of their plan to depopulate the globe. And here you are leading a bunch of people to the veritable Fox's Den.

The United States isn't perfect, some seem to think it needs some socialism to make it perfect. It is not supposed to be perfect. Its principle is to work towards a more perfect union. When will it be perfect - for as long as it exists - never. The socialist goal is perfection. Utopia! When could that socialist state be more perfect? It can't. It has no such goal. It has arrived. So why would it change?

The US, because of certain ambitious politicians and bankers who have thought they have been living with their hands tied by the US Constitution have eaten away it until today it faces a very real internal subversive force for its "fundamental transformation" to attain perfection. It will no longer exist as a country of freedom and liberty for the individual it was intended to be. Children cannot have freedom and liberty until they learn the duties and responsibilities that accompany them.
Those clamoring for relief from those responsibilities are still as children and never assumed them.
Brittney Griner is learning what oppression is. She broke the law in another country. Force is contained in law. The laws of a nation need respect or they will crush an individual. Don't like them? Work to change them! That's the grown up way. She thought she could do anything she wanted no matter where she was, like a child, and her state parents would rescue her, maybe they still can maybe they can't. Hopefully, if they do get her off the hook she will have learned her lesson and forever be a good little girl or she could just grow up.

The law in the west today has been corrupted, laws are more for the aggrandizement of the government and to sway power over the individual. They are sold to the public as necessary protections against bad individuals. Few people are actually bad. Potentially, we could all be bad and that is how government sees their citizens today - we are all bad. We must never grow up and be adults but forever dependent upon the State.
