I was not in favor of gay marriage even though I was under considerable social pressure to be. We had many gay friends and neighbors. Although most people would agree that slippery slope arguments are a logical fallacy anyone who has lived long enough will have observed that logical or not it is often the way things work out. When we had to vote on River Boat Gambling I had the same stance that it was a slippery slope. Three times we voted against legalized gambling but the powerful lobbies never gave up and it eventually passed. Once they had a foot in the door it went from the boats will be a cool tourist attractions to well boats are impractical they can just be close to the river. With Gay marriage it was only a matter of time until transsexuals would want the same level of social recognition. There is now some movement towards acceptance of pedophilia. It's a Pandora's box. Once opened it can't be closed.

I'm not particularly religious so those arguments don't sway me much. iThink said "Indifference to suffering and death of innocence" that strikes me as an emotional appeal which isn't my style. But it does capture the corrupting influence of hedonism. I'm gay and I want to get married because it makes me feel good, if I have a baby I won't have time or the opportunity to party and have multiple sexual partners, forget about the effect it has on social organization. So while it is questionable that anyone is innocent in the sense of fully committed to doing what is best for society as a whole at least religious people have some sort of code of ethics that seems workable for a society as a whole. One of those ethics should be family values. Children seem to do best in a household where a man and a woman are committed to an ethical life that is not focused on pleasure.

Rationality is not enough to live by. Everyone needs an emotional life to be happy and productive. The same is true of a society. Some sexual behaviors and certainly abortion degrade the value of human life. It's hard to live a good life without reinforcing the feeling that everyone has value. equally important is the feeling that you can trust most people and certainly your sexual partner. That is the foundation of a free society.

Without faith, belief in God - or a Supreme Creator we are only left with secularism. Human Secularism is in effect and affect Mankind worshiping himself - Materialism and Hedonism are the rituals of self affirmation. Within that framework things like lust, envy, sloth and sexual deviancy are encouraged and celebrated.
Indifference to suffering and death of innocence is required in order to "keep the party going".
Live rich - live for pleasure because after all you only live once - right?
Strange thing though - most people if asked would profess to believe in God and to be Christian. They still get married in Churches; they still get their babies baptized; they practice the commercialized routines of Easter and Christmas - all the while focused on attaining the next "cool thing" - looking glamorous and fitting in with the trendy - "the beautiful people"
They kill babies in the womb - because, well..."kill joy" is terminology that aptly fits that sinister macabre practice. Nothing kills the fun like having a baby - so lets kill the baby! errr, that mass of clustered cells - and the beat goes on.
For whatever role I may have played - for whatever contribution I might have made to bringing about that secularist paradigm - I think of it often. And I hope for Gods mercy and forgiveness.

Powerful message. "God Almighty is a majority of ONE" may be the best line I've read in the past year.

If we closely studied Romans 1:20 onwards, we would be astounded to discover that perverse sexual orientation is a result of rejecting God. Rejecting God darkens the mind.
