Is is possible that there are two form of capital required by government policing forces? One being the commonly recognized monetary funding by legislatures of one kind or another? While the other kind of capital required by government is that of public respect?

I guess what I’m asking is, are the policing forces around the world approaching the point of exhausting what ‘public respect capital’ allotted to them by the public with all this totalitarian COVID nonsense? I just don’t think that public respect is inexhaustible – is it?

Public respect is the only thing that actually protect a police office – why don’t they realize that?

STORY TIME: One of the best altercations I have ever been privileged to witness took place in the wee hours of the morning in a lone roadhouse built of stone wall about three feet thick. The one door was obviously home-made as it was about 2 or 3 inches thick. I had stopped off there for no real reason other than to relax after getting off work and on my way home in the rurals. The place was owned by a friendly fellow by the nickname of red )yes he had red hair). I walked up to the bar and purchase a beer and took a seat on one of the stools. Probably a minute or so went by until a huge corn fed bruiser of a young man walked in – which I didn’t pay much attention to. Well not until I noticed the one door being shut and bolted tight with about 6 or 7 customers still there. Somewhere about then I noticed another monster corn fed bruiser of a kid setting down at thye other end of the bar. It didn’t take long to find out these two boys were cousins – the one that had just walked in was a police office and the one already there wasn’t. I guess Red had locked up so these two y6oung men could enjoy each others company in somewhat privacy as they didn’t care for each other very much – a little quality time was called for? Well the show began and they pounded on each other all around that roadhouse (now yo9u know what the rock walls were important to the story) as there was no exiting or help coming for anybody – just a couple of kids having fun. My point is that police officers mistakenly get the idea that they’re tough when all that’s really protecting them it the public respect for that privilege badge they wear. When that public respect capital is exhausted so are they? Just an observation?

PS. Defunding the police isn’t the worse that could happen, public respect capital could be lost forever?
