Eye for eye, tooth for tooth is much closer to the surface than "turn the other cheek"
Vigilantism is kept in relative check by a tenuous contract between "the people" and "gov't"
Gov't is entrusted with the responsibility to preserve prosperity, peace and security via application of lawful intervention.
Once Gov't abdicated that responsibility it becomes inevitable that "the people" in earnest take matters into their own hands.
Shoot first - ask questions later? I can see that becoming reality...

That there are really people in the world today that believe this crap is beyond me. Seriously. I think vigilantism is inevitable. Eventually people are pushed too far and if the government abdicates it's responsibility to apprehend and punish miscreants, it will devolve to us to do it.

Crime would indeed be a construct if you removed the laws that criminalizes criminal activity. This is the rise of lawlessness well articulated by its engineers. Maybe the proponents should be mobbed to test the limits of their theories.

The Seattle autonomous zone was a tyrannical dictatorship and a drug cartel.
The Park Slope Panthers will find that the park is controlled by thugs and that there's nothing they can do about it. The police won't help.
The Seattle autonomous zone could have been crushed simply by turning off the electricity, water, natural gas, garbage collection, and the sewage system.
