One of the most destructive trends in American politics is the growing belief on both sides of the aisle that elections are no longer fair.
Many on the right believe the system is rigged, while the left makes constant accusations of voter “suppression.” One side says Trump won in 2020, while the other says Stacy Ambrams is the true Governor of Georgia.
This is a great conversation between Coleman Hughes, a skeptic on voter suppression, and Sam Koppelman, who co-authored a recently released book on the subject with former Obama Attorney General Eric Holder.

I don't see why calling a spade a spade is destructive. In my view, the most destructive trend in American politics is election fraud.

If Americans continue to lose faith in the fairness of their election system the world’s greatest democracy is as good as dead. The American political class has reached the point where a four year term is more important than the future of their country. The Chinese know it. The Russians know it. They’re waiting.
Both the Dems nor the GOP need to learn about accepting defeat with honour and focusing on the next cycle.. If they continue to behave like a third world country, they’ll continue to see the spread of third world conditions. Voters deserve a better class of leaders.
@GeeMac the loss of faith did not come out of nothing. It came out of the sending home of GOP watchers before they proceeded with the count. It came out of the midnight deliveries of luggages of ballots which the GOP watchers knew nothing about. Even the glass windows were papered over. I mean, who can forget that? There were a lot of other things that were off. Remove the reason to doubt, and doubt will disappear.
@eschatologyguy No doubt the rise of unverified mail-in ballots, the crazy idea that ID requirements are unfair and the notion that the voting system is part of a supremacist conspiracy are leftist ideas and need to be addressed. Woke-progressives decided to exploit this when the Supreme Court ordered an end JoD oversight of election law changes in states with “racist” histories.
My issue is that Republicans have failed to clearly explain the issue with the American public, allowing the destructive lie to grow and continue to undermine faith in democracy. Instead of a grown up discussion of why unverified mail-in ballots represent a danger, many Republicans choose to react emotionally, launching the stolen election campaign, which has done the party far more harm than good, and all but wiped out the amazing accomplishments of the Trump administration.
I said after the November 2020 election that the job of the Republicans was move on and concentrate on the 2022 mid-terms. Continuing the re-litigate the 2020 results have done nothing but given the left a powerful argument against all conservatives.
As the Spanish civil war drew near, Spanish children switched from playing cops and robbers to playing rightists and leftists. Wonder if that'll happen in America.
