They, just like people who find themselves dependent on pain killers, cocaine, heroin...people who are afflicted with all manner of debilitating physical challenges and mental challenges.
I really think that what the so called "fat acceptance" movement is about is that Fat people should never have to tolerate mockery, insulting remarks nor ads like the ad on the outside of a fitness studio.
Fat shaming is shameful behavior. I would suggest anyone and everyone who is in the habit of pointing out "fat people" ought to look at themselves - inventory their own bodies, their own attitudes toward "other people" - people who are "different" somehow.
I have a brother who is very bad about that. He can't even walk or drive a mile without pointing out "that fatass over there"...When he does that in my presence I get on his ass right away. So, what about your own flaws Paul - what about the general attitude of contempt that you have carried all your life beginning in your early teens. That is a HUGE flaw Paul - you should seek counseling...
I will sum up here by saying simply: Literally EVERY person you see is suffering, carrying a weight on their shoulders over something you know nothing about.
Think about it.

Some years back a local gym ran some ads on the sides of buses in Frisco along the lines of : "When the aliens attack they will eat the fat folks first, get fit!!"
Local fatties made them take them all down 'cause they were offended.
It is a myth that fat folk are jolly.

Proud of fat bodies? That's like being proud of having a face which looks like it caught fire and was put out with an axe.
Although there are some exceptions, the majority of fat people are the results of making a long series of very poor life decisions.

I am no light weight myself, but if We start accepting OVER WEIGHT as the norm, Mother nature will correct our thinking!!!!!!!! Just saying!!!!!!

Mother Nature has a lot of overdue corrections to make in other notions of normalcy even more egregious than being over weight.
@Serg97 Well, actually I've been ready for a while. At the extremes you have to accept that death is not the worst that can happen. Understand that and you can be ready for just about anything. Having said that, I would add that extreme pain is very difficult to "be ready" for so I do work hard to avoid that if I can 
.
