I keep hearing from American politicians and pundits that we have to support Ukraine because if we don't it sends a signal to China they have free rein to take over Taiwan.
I would like to point out that the United States will not declare war on Russia but it will send tens of billions of dollars and artillery aid. Why won't it declare war against Russia? The reason given is, it doesn't want to get militarily involved because it might spark WWlll.
Secondly, it is not obligated to protect Ukraine because it is not a member of NATO.
I find it cognitively dissonant to say an invasion of Ukraine by Russia cannot be militarily defended because it would start a WWlll yet the only option to defend Taiwan is to declare war on China which would also start WWlll???
China does intend to take Taiwan regardless of what happens in Ukraine. What option does the US have to stop China other than declaring war?

Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.It is not reasonable to conclude that there is any way of defending territories on the very doorstep of potential nuclear adversaries, any more reasonably than Russia could install nuclear weapons in Cuba, or Mexico, or somewhat more likely, in Canada. This is the real World, not some World democracy, as some Americans living in fantasy seem to project.

The cognitive mistake you are making is saying that the only option to defend Taiwan is to declare war on China.
No, that is exactly not the case.
If Ukraine can defeat Russia with indirect support from the US and other allies, Taiwan will similarly have the opportunity to defeat a Chinese invasion with similar support.
Stopping Russia now without having to declare war is a big step from keeping China from attacking Taiwan, and again eliminate the need to declare war.

It is doubtful the US, under a Democrat administration, would provide any support for Taiwan at all. They are more interested in destroying America. There is no way the threat of China invading Taiwan is a crisis they can benefit from so there is no way they will give it the same support.
Supporting Ukraine offers the opportunity to create a regime change in Russia and takes attention off the obvious but yet only alleged American political crimes in Ukraine.
How is it that Nazi's in Ukraine, however small the contingent, are supported and even lauded by the left in America? Because it is time to hate Russia.
Adding to that some of America is in cahoots with China financially.

I would say that US is in fact giving support to Ukraine - against Russia Directly - formal declaration of war notwithstanding.
Taiwan will similarly have the opportunity to defeat a Chinese invasion with similar support
only in someones dreams could Taiwan successfully fend off China US support or otherwise. Furthermore if all of this culminates in global warfare the status of Taiwans and Ukraines independence becomes moot.

Your right about that. Haven't heard a word. I hear a lot about corporate America being tied to China, the WEF strategy and the Dems.
If China wants to take Taiwan they need to have a much greater sealift capability than they have. Then if they try it, it will be degraded as the war progresses. China better hope Taiwan does not have a few nukes stashed away as well. 3 Gorges, Beijing will be targets for sure.

The Republic of China (i.e., that name is like a stick in the eye to the CCP) has the advantage of being an island. The CCP would need either a load of landing crafts or airborne. initial landing would be simple. A war of attrition would not favor the CCP -- crafts die faster than troops.
For the ROC to withstand they must not depend upon help from the CCP's puppet, BeijingBiden. But, a few nukes in ships in various CCP ports would halt any invasion. Don't worry about land penetration, just every port city on the coast. Destroy their ability to trade with the world for years. The rest of the world would stomp on the CCP if they were apprised ahead of time, and the CCP leaders would not survive a month.
Origin of nukes? Israel.
China never stops thinking, planning (for nefarious reasons) but US does.
US is not UNIFIED against China at all. Some even make A LOT of money off it.
