As a percentage the approximate 20 percent of people unvaccinated fit with the 4 in 5 value meaning the effectiveness of the vaccine is questionable at this point. That said the over all death rate would probably be higher if the most vulnerable were not vaccinated.
There are so many problems with the available data I don't put much faith in the statistics used by either the pro or anti vaccine people. The entire pandemic is a study in bad science and worse science reporting.
The original developers of the mRNA technology knew that labeling the shots as vaccines was misleading. Technically they may be vaccines but not vaccines as the public understands vaccines. From the beginning the original developers knew they would not stop the spread and encourage mutation. Functionally they are prophylactic against serious illness from the virus. Less so than natural immunity.
The question of how dangerous the vaccines are is less clear. Most doctors are reluctant to attribute side effects to the vaccines. You also have to remember doctors are not scientists and most do not really know the science but parrot the drug company narrative.
We will never know the true epidemiological story. Too much money and politics influences the data.
