So.... I have a friend who has been telling me since 46 was inaugurated that Trump is still POTUS, Biden is an actor on a set in California, and the Clintons have all been hanged at Gitmo. She sends me articles to prove it. They are from a satire site, but she thinks I have been duped for not believing this stuff. She also listens to "prophets" on YouTube who have very good records for their predictions not happening. She tells me not to be concerned about the loss of civil liberties, the economy, illegal immigration, and many other quantifiable problems because her sources say Trump is in charge of the military and will be back in the White House next week and next week and next week... Other than hitting her up the side of the head with a 2x4, how can reality be restored? She is not unique in these delusions that prevent positive political action.

Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.I don't listen to the "prophets" of today. Many popular ones (won't mention names) have been giving one false flag after another. If they previously made even one "prophecy" that didn't come to pass, I put them in the category of givers of false prophecy. And we have plenty of that on the Internet. And it includes big names. And still they continue to have a big following.

I fear that the time for positive political action is long past. No politicians are addressing the most serious assaults on liberty the world over. They all spew "political" talking points: the Biden administration's border/immigration fiasco, the economy/inflation, election integrity, etc. No one is addressing the finance/tech/pharma assaults on the right to life for average human beings. It really is so monstrous a crime against humanity that it is little wonder that people like your friend are withdrawing into soothing delusions rather than trying to come to terms with the truth of what is being done to all of us.

@eschatologyguy When the facts are so dreadfully negative they can sometimes overwhelm the ability to see the positivity on the other side of the hill. Sorry for spewing.
@Geofrank It's the dirty lowdown, but somebody's got to say it. Better the harsh truth that you can use than sugar coated lies that put you in sudden harm's way. It is overwhelming, I know. That's why more people are on their knees than ever before.
Delusions exist on both sides. This is what happens when cognitive dissonance reaches a threshold of breaking reality. Nothing you can do. Make sure they're eating and not hurting themselves, then keep your own mental health as a primary focus. Because that much delusion around you isn't healthy.

@eschatologyguy True...the ability to move information all but instantly, across the entire globe, is something not available prior to the 1960s. And the cultures were isolated enough that "concerns" in one didn't always (seldom) translate into others. So, I agree with your basic premise.
Tracy, she's perfectly functional, but is so certain that there is a master plan taking care of everything that is disengaged.

@tracycoyle disseminatable or not, the issue that is on the table really is, what explains the fact the so many are falling for the lie? A chain of events? And what allowed it to be so?
@eschatologyguy Two things: 1) extreme distress over the politics of one side or the other - usually driven by, 2) access to immediate information AND a willingness to isolate oneself to one accepted source (or group of sources) to the exclusion of any counter-information.
I would wager that @DMcCreery1956 's friend would dismiss out of hand ANYTHING that called into question their current mindset... (the Left blames FOX, the Right blames CNN)
@eschatologyguy I think they are what Eric Hoffer defined as True Believers and are so psychologically invested in the outcome promised by social media influencers that they will follow the plan to the death.

@DMcCreery1956 Yea, my partner believed that Sarah Palin said she could see Russia from her porch...despite it being, on video, Tina Fey. And when, if, the consider the possibility they are wrong, they will offer tons of excuses/explanations why it was still true...
