I can't claim that I watch a lot of movies with black characters (1), so I don't know how pervasive it is.

But I will say that I found no little irony to the Star Wars sequel series that LucasFilm took the only really likable character - Finn - and demoted him into a comedic sidekick, purportedly to please Chinese audiences, who are openly racist towards black people and make no apologies for it. And then they had the unmitigated gall to criticize U.S audiences for not seeing the 2nd and 3rd films because of our intrinsic "misogyny and racism."

I mean, how do you do that and keep a straight face? Somehow American audiences are racist for not embracing Rose Tico, and misogynist for not embracing Rey and Admiral Gender Studies - because it couldn't possibly be that they were uninteresting characters - but they went out of their way to turn Finn into a joke out of fear that the Chinese would shun the movie if they kept him on the path of the hero's journey.

(1) I couldn't even tell you the last movie I saw, in the theatres or otherwise, that was produced by Hollywood. From other countries? That's a different matter.

Seems like Hollywood has destroyed compelling characters, period. Its just a vehicle to facilitate overarching propaganda message of the left. Off course they don't really create they are milking nostalgia of the old movies that had fans, and rebranding it into woke crap. I have not seen anything that I would call good storytelling for the last almost 20 years in Hollywood. Any exception that one might find are just that an exception, rather than a rule. And these exceptions are getting to be almost non existent these days.

Well said! In its rush to preach the social gospel, Hollywood has forgotten its original purpose to tell a good story with rounded characters while actually entertaining the audience.
