Totalitarian/authoritarians know that they must take control of the media to take control of a Country.

I think the 2020 Presidential Elections evidenced clearly that the government/Regime has captured the US corporate media and has turned them into their sanctioned propaganda media-cartel with a license to lie* to the American public and the world at large.

Our government/Regime is allowed by law to create propaganda tailored specifically for the American public and global consumption using any media as it sees fit, while remaining anonymous as the source of the material being reported. How did this happen? Think obama!

The Smith-Mundt Modernization Act (SMMA) was buried in the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act for good reason – because it repealed the 1948 Smith-Mundt Act. The Smith-Mundt Act is also known as the U.S. Information and Education Act, which authorized the State Department to engage in propagandizing foreign countries as a form of public diplomacy.

The SMA established that via the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG), Voice of America (VOA), and Radio Free Europe (RFE), the U.S. State Department and Office of Public Affairs were authorized to disseminate propaganda to foreign publics, but were strictly prohibited from releasing that same propaganda in America for public consumption. The SMMA permitted our government to lie to people in other countries, but not to us here at home.

This prohibition was lifted in 2012, when the SMMA was signed into law by President Obama, allowing the same propaganda disseminated by our government to foreign publics, to now be released in the U.S. for the very first time.

This covert activity by our state department (Public Diplomacy) and Public Affairs department can only occur with corporate media’s full complicity, for which it is well compensated, by American tax-payer's dollars appropriated by the SMMA. The SMMA provides for ample funding for U.S. propaganda programming, incentivizing the corporate-media cartel to partner with the Regime for a source of revenue to backstop its operational budgets that have been declining due to years of increasingly low ratings, social media competition, loss of relevance, and the public’s growing loss of confidence in media’s reporting veracity regardless of political affiliation. This explains how CNN stays in business. This unholy alliance between the Regime/U.S. State Department and America’s corporate media unbinds reporters and news departments from the solemn responsibility to verify information. This explains the BS fact-checker scams they're running.

All the media-cartel's propaganda is presented to we the American people as news, we are none the wiser that it is scripted, orchestrated, and fully supported with the Regime's invisible seal of approval.

In Canada, the government/Regime is pushing Bill C-10 as one part of a much broader effort to overhaul Canada’s internet rules. They say they want to “review and modernize” Canada’s broadcasting and telecommunications laws and to outline “a new approach to growing (propagandizing) Canada’s cultural sector.” Removing section 4.1, which provided an exclusion for user-generated content, has set off alarm bells as the legislation could then be used to regulate Canadians’ user generated and social media posts. Bill C-10 is a calculated move by the government/Regime to subsume Internet social media into their media-cartel so they control and drive all media generated propaganda as well as suppress and censor any dissenting Canadian opinions/voices.

Bill C-10 may be dead for now (Senate discussions on returning during the summer will reportedly not include the bill), but CRTC Chair Ian Scott has signalled a willingness to move ahead with Bill C-10-like policies. In fact, even without legislative reform, the CRTC last week announced that it is re-opening its approach to a digital media survey by seeking to expand it to cover foreign streaming services. The Canadian progressives are determined to capture and control Canadian Institutions and culture. They realize that controlling media is vital and will use any means necessary to achieve that goal.
