I know that many previous generations believed that they lived in the "END TIMES"!!!
People I know think we are there now, could be!!!
Thankfully, I don't believe that humans, are now or ever, were given the power to make that decision!!!
Mankind has had the power to destroy the world or at least civilization most of my life time, which has been a few years!!!
But here we are, still thinking THIS could end at any time!!!!
Where do you stand????
I personally will wait for GOD to make that call!!!

What is significant for me is more and more people - even those who are not even religious - are looking and talking about the events and times that we are in as telling of a coming denouement of human civilization, like people can feel it in their bones.

When Dirty Harry says a man has to know his limitations that should extend to social engineers. Hubris is certainly an issue but that doesn't mean we should stop engaging in social engineering. All forms of civilization are social engineering. For the most part social engineering should take the form of negotiation not coercion. What no civilization has ever worked out is what to do with people that refuse to negotiate.

The most succinct and authoritative summary of the End Times is called the Olivet Discourse. It is recorded in Matthew 24-25, Mark 13 and Luke 21.

First, it tells us not to be deceived. There will be many signs, many dire crises, and many false messiahs. In addition, it says nobody but God himself will know when the true messiah is to return.

There are, however, signs of the times we must be aware of. Jesus mentions the Abomination of Desolations, when the false messiah stops temple sacrifice and puts his own statue in the Jewish Temple to be worshipped. This requires a Jewish Temple and Jewish Levitical sacrifices. The Temple Institute in Jerusalem is preparing for this, but there is no Temple just yet.

Personally, I'm guessing that Palestinians might destroy whatever's on the Temple Mount with rocket barrages, making way for a 3rd Temple to be built. But we'll see.

I agree that God has already determined when this world will come to an end and when each civilization will come to an end, however I don’t believe His decisions on this are capricious. I believe He is not bound by time as He was its creator and can see all eternity like we see a picture. Armed with His knowledge and understanding of what has and will happen, He knows when we have hardened our hearts against the gift of salvation He paid for and offers to all. That knowledge and the knowledge of what future harm and good a person/civilization will do, informs His decisions as to when He determines to end the world/ a civilization/ a person/ etc...

I say this to point out that although God makes the perfect decisions as to when to create and when to destroy, we each hold a responsibility for our personal actions and our combined actions. I may not be responsible for the your choices and actions, but I owe it to God, you and others to attempt to help you see when you are harming yourself or others with your decisions and actions. He put each of us here for a reason and a purpose. It is our job to learn what that is and to fulfill it. Only then will we be fulfilled.
