I remember being hit at school by the teacher and getting in trouble when you get home also. Nowadays if the teacher smacked the child it would go home and get a cuddle and the teacher would be in trouble.
In those days your Mum was always sure to find out if you had been in trouble at school, you couldn't hide anything everybody knew everybody, I think embarrassing your parents was a worse sin than what you got the smack for. In our day it was 'the cane' and some of them were vicious with it , usually done in front of the whole class as an example to the rest it was to be avoided at all costs. I have always been glad my own children didn't have to go through it , corporal punishment was forbidden by then and these days is rightly looked upon with horror .
I remember being in a class early primary school. Female teacher. Badly mounted blackboard fell off the wall and hit me on the head. I've had problematic neck issues all my life. Probable connection! Teacher at the time says "That'll knock some sense into you." Jeezh.
