LINK Brett Kavanaugh Rules Children Deserve Life in Prison With No Chance of Parole
In September 2018, in between screaming about his love of beer and crying over his love of calendars, Brett Kavanaugh told the Senate Judiciary Committee: “If we want to sit here and talk about whether a Supreme Court nomination should be based on a high school yearbook page, I think that’s taken us to a new level of absurdity.” In fact, lawmakers that day weren’t deciding whether or not to confirm Kavanaugh to the highest court in the land based on “a high school yearbook page” but over credible allegations of sexual assault, which he denied. Nevertheless, Kavanaugh’s position that day was that people shouldn’t be held accountable for things they do as minors. But what he apparently actually meant was that he shouldn’t be held accountable for things he allegedly did as kid, while others deserve life in prison without the possibility of parole.
On Thursday, in a 6–3 decision authored by Kavanaugh, the Supreme Court decided that judges need not determine that a juvenile convicted of a crime is incapable of being rehabilitated before sentencing him or her to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The “argument that the sentencer must make a finding of permanent incorrigibility is inconsistent with the Court’s precedents,” Kavanaugh claimed, which actually isn’t true at all. The ruling resulted in the court upholding a life-without-parole sentence that a Mississippi court imposed on Brett Jones, a then 15-year-old who stabbed his grandfather to death.

I'm in favor of 'do the crime, do the times. Looks like Brett may have scammed the system. Where is Amy Barrett? Doesn't she do anything?

Brett Kavanaugh and SCOTUS did their job as the judiciary. They interpreted the law. For them to do otherwise would be judicial overreach. If you don't like what the law says, it is the role of the legislature to change it.
Also, the assertion that the allegations against Brett Kavanaugh were credible is manifestly ridiculous!

Right. After a cursory reading of the actual decision, I think the above linked article by Vanity Fair (a notably liberal/progressive news source) has misunderstood it. I'm not surprised that they simply took the side of the three dissenting progressive judges -- Breyer, Kagan, and Sotomayor.
I suppose the next step in "progress" is defunding the court system. What could possibly go wrong.

The Republicans blocked Obama's nominee with almost a year left, allowing Trump to have a vacancy. Then when RBG died, in the middle of an actual election, they rammed through a confirmation.
I remember when you were defending that insanity. And now you want to be taken seriously. So sorry there is some levels of stupidity that can't be ignored.
That's a respectable moderate ruling. Now, let's put the death penalty on the table for defendants 12 and up.
