Rapper Lil Nas X’s Nike ‘Satan Shoes’ spark outrage — yes, they contain 1 drop of human blood
- "The shoes will reportedly contain 66 CCs of red ink and 1 drop of human blood in its sole. Other features of the infernal footwear are a pentagram pendant over the laces and “Luke 10:18” written on the side, a Bible verse about Satan’s fall from heaven."
So, I saw this and thought, there's no way this is an actual thing. Turns out it is. Aside from the obviously questionable taste of promoting satanic footwear by a star who has a pretty large childrens following, I'm most thrown by the whole "drop of blood" in the sole bit.
I guess these are Nike, but Nike says that they have nothing to do with it. Which also doesn't make sense because the shoes clearly have the Nike symbol, so unless Nike plans on recalling these, they are Nike.
Then there's the individually numbered 666 pairs available for over 1k a pop.
Well, my verdict is that any product that has, knowingly and purposefully, a drop of human blood in it is gross, and unsanitary. The satanic pentagram and bible verse are not something anyone should be trying to market, and I have no doubt all 666 pairs will sell, because I have little faith in humanity.

- "As a direct and proximate result of MSCHF's wrongful acts, Nike has suffered, continues to suffer, and/or is likely to suffer damage to its trademarks, business reputation, and goodwill that money cannot compensate," the lawsuit added. "Unless enjoined, MSCHF will continue to use Nike's Asserted Marks and/or confusingly similar marks and will cause irreparable damage to Nike for which Nike has no adequate remedy at law."
So, apparently I was wrong about Nike having anything to do with this. I also discovered MSCHF made some Jesus Nikes with holy water and a crucifix October 2019.

I thought things like Nikes "swoosh", Mickeys "ears", McDonalds "M", etc, were trademarks that couldn't be used for profit on other peoples products.
Then there's modifying a product, and reselling it. I didn't think that was legal either. This is a really weird case.

How many times in years passed have places like Hot Topic or Spencer's Gifts been criticized for containing "Satanic paraphernalia?"
There's just one problem: the inverted cross is NOT Satanic. Not even close.
An inverted cross - also know as a petrine cross, or the Cross of St. Peter - is upside-down because that's how St. Peter was crucified: upside-down. It's not only the symbol of St. Peter, worn by those who venerate him (myself included), but it's the symbol of the Papacy, given that St. Peter was the first actual Pope.
Even the Satanic Church itself came out and chastised its members for wearing inverted crosses, something along the lines of "why would you wear the symbol of a false god when you yourself are gods?"(1)
So, my point here, is that people get strung out on symbolism that they don't really understand and let their imaginations run wild with. A drop of blood? Who cares? Women throw out FAR MORE human blood over the course of a month than went into that shoe. The pentagram? Not Satanic, sorry; that hearkens back all the way to ancient Babylon and Greece. Now, were the guy to throw the visage of Baphomet on his shoe, then we could have a conversation.
For my part, it's just an ugly shoe.

Haha, yeah I've been following this "controversy". I find it quite funny. As you say, pretty good marketing for his brand. No such thing as bad press.
It's funny how all these people are freaking out now. They freaked out when he came out as gay, and now they are freaking out over this music video and these shoes.
Lil Nas X doesn't owe anybody anything. Who cares if kids like him? Does that mean he must forever cater to children? He can't grow? He has no say in his own art and image? This is just like Britney and Christina before, and Miley more recently - no wonder they went to the extreme to break away from their kiddie image. People grow up, people change their image. It's not their job to raise your kids.
The shoes actually seem cool, haha. If I was a shoe person I'd buy them, but I can never understand $1k for shoes.
Imagine if someone came out with Jesus shoes, no one would care. Satanic Panic is alive and well.
