Also, what has led you to that conclusion? I'm not sure you've thought it all the way through... If you sell all goods, then you'll just be one of the poor yourself; able to help nobody. Not a great plan for spreading prosperity.

@Poncho69 Actually, Jesus suggested to that individual that selling his goods and giving to the poor would help him personally to improve his relationship with God further than what he was already doing in his life.

Jesus encouraged his followers to be charitable with their own wealth. Commies forcibly redistribute other people's wealth.

@Beachslim That's incorrect. The State Religion may be Atheism, but you'll find people of all faiths pretty much everywhere you go. You can't change that by decree.
Christianity is expanding faster in Asia right now, including China, than it is in the West.
North Korea is probably the most ideologically-pure Communist theocracy, and in 2006 they expanded the Protestant Bongsu Church in Pyongyang to support increased attendance.
Whether it's all "for show", or not... it exists; at the discretion of the State, like everything else.
Allowing you to smuggle in a Bible, or to hold your own services... would interfere with that State-control. That's the extent of the "ban".
What communists countries do, is attempt to control and corrupt those religions with beliefs that are more in-line with their own Theocratic dogma.
That is the purpose of propaganda like, "Jesus was a Communist."

"...works in mysterious ways" is not a quote from the Bible, it's from a William Cowper poem, so... having a Bible wouldn't blow their cover. But, you can get killed anyway for simply doubting the official story about the Dear Leader; whether you read it somewhere or not.

When Stalin inserted Kim Il-sung to head up the Communist theocracy in N. Korea in 1949, they soon began building him up as some sort of near-deity Suryong (Great Leader), much like the Soviet press did with Stalin, and the Catholics do with the Pope.
Christianity was already widespread in northern Korea by that time, so it's not like they would have been fooling anybody with misquotes about Kim Il-sung as a "pretend-Jesus".
Kim Jong-un is just the latest successor to that mythology, after Jong-il.
