Don't plant just annuals. Research permaculture and plant forgotten plants like good king henry, bloody dock, or self seeding annuals like ground cherries. Also invest in fruit and nut trees and berries. Remember that most of the produce you see in the store was chosen mostly for shipping qualities only.
Glasshouse or wait until it melts and preserve some for next winter so you don't go hungry next year when food shortages kick in
