You would not believe how evil the mental hospitals can be. The whole system really functions in a way to exaserbate symptoms and test pharmacudicals on people.

If you mean that mental health should be left in the hands of private professionals instead of the government, I could not agree more. Every time the government has done anything other than write a check for privatized services - and even that's had its problems - the outcomes have been subpar if not disastrous.

@Alysandir i have been highly abused by both private and government. Neglect, avoidance, assaultiveness, aggressiveness assumption without investigation, false reporting, disinterest, andbowing ti the big book of pills for treatment.

Both private and public treatment facilities literally hire bouncers and cal them psychiatric nursing aides and many of those i have experience press and violate your physical space aggressively until there is an altercation allowing legalized assaults.

I went 18 years without an honest assessment of my facilities.

Veterans affairs saved my life with their interest and investment in treatment and wellness.

@Alysandir incompetence and mal-intended treatment of residents in private homes and hospitals is almost as common as they are in gov't owned/operated facilities. The problem is that patent care is extremely hard work and often very disgusting. It is very difficult to find and to keep good caring competent employees in mental hospitals and convalescent homes. They pay isn't all that great when you consider the difficulties of the job.
The thing is that patents/residents often times are literally abandoned by their families. Once placed in an institution the family is seldom seen or heard from.
When my wife was in residential/skilled nursing care for alzheimers patients the family people who visited more than once every week could be counted on one hand counting myself; I visited every day until my wife died back in October 2020. There was one other person who visited her husband every day.
The point I'm making here is that in the absence of family oversight the care workers easily begin to take shortcuts and to neglect residents.
It's just a tragic reality that we can not trust those facilities to take good care of our beloved ill family member while in their care.

Alright, I hear both of you loud and clear.

And speaking as someone who went for the better part of his life with undiagnosed autism that was instead labeled borderline personality disorder and requiring years of unproductive medication and behavioral therapy, I empathize - to the extent that I can - with what you've experienced. The apathy, the lack of understanding, the "clinical mindset" that too often justified the lack of compassion. Yeah, I get it.

But what's the answer? You look at Los Angeles's Skid Row and San Francisco having a "poop patrol" to clean up from mentally ill people defecating on sidewalks and in the streets and you can't help but think, "this is the best we can do for these folks?" That the answer is to normalize mental illness and make accommodations for it in society?

@Alysandir good question! unfortunately the answer has to be gov't. Facilities must be built in which to house those who are incapable of caring for themselves much less interacting with society in any productive way whatsoever.
There needs to be a system in place where the homeless population can be screened. The truly ill (mental/emotional disturbances or other incapacitating illnesses) must be properly cared for and for the good of the society and for their own good housed.
Those homeless who are capable of functioning to a level of working menial jobs or more complex jobs should be housed separately from those who are truly ill. Then they need to be transitioned into independent living.
Those who are illegally present in our Country should be summarily deported.
In short I think its a fair argument to say that the human homeless should be treated no worse than the stray cats and dogs who are "rescued" every day. Kept in shelters, fed, kept warm and dry pending adoption or euthenasia. I am NOT - NOT suggesting that homeless people be put to death! ok? ok!

Just saying as a society we treat animals much better than we treat other humans in dire need.

To those who would complain about tax monies being used for this problem I would say if they can come up with a better solution then lets hear it...otherwise STFU! and be grateful that YOU are not among the homeless population.

Oh and another thing that might help. Decriminalize recreational use of drugs. It causes more problems than it helps IMHO. This might help mitigate the problem of people finding themselves living on the streets.

it is the nature of the human dynamic - an evil thought leads to an evil act...the problem is that the general population of Western Civilization has all but completely abandoned any working belief in anything greater than themselves. This is the "humanist" movement and humans are tragically, unavoidably, incapable of building anything that does not eventually fail - including belief systems and governments.
There is no such thing as a true vacuum. In the absence of good and good influence there is the presence of evil. There is simply no other, honest way to put it.
Mankind - Western Culture is obviously in a rapidly and intensely increasing downward spiral. IMHO this is the inevitable outcome of living in a Godless society.

@iThink Yes! Did you notice the 'movement' of California into what I'd say was humanism? I thought they even legitimized pedophilia, and the list went on! Then I see all the disasters going on in California, turning LA into
a homeless dump( no condemnation of homeless who are a mixed situation) but gone is the nice downtown of LA. To me, it was like consequences of the direction the state moved in.
I think many Californians were caught in something too big.
