LINK Freedom of Speech and IDW/Slug
It is with a heavy heart that I learned my #Mexican amigo was banned from #IDW. He didn't go into detail as to why he was banned, but I'd like to think there are very few things short of something actually illegal to get one banned from IDW/Slug.
He's not too happy about it, judging by a recent video he posted on #YouTube, but he makes a point. When we restrict someone's speech - regardless of how obnoxious or offensive it might be - we sow the seeds of conflict because, in the absence of conversation, conflicts can only be resolved through combat.

people have always been banned from forums for breaking the rules.
it's weird this is a new phenomenon where people argue it's everyones right to do whatever they like all the time.
i've worked in pubs and barred people before, this is normal and something that happens in pubs and has done forever - but i get the feeling some people would try and argue the pub should serve everyone, even the guy nobody likes.

And if you advertised your pub as a "free speech" establishment only to ban people for speaking freely, it would be hypocritical.
I can block people on IDW/Slug and IDW/Slug purports to be a free speech venue, therefore, people have a reasonable expectation to be able to voice their opinions without fear of being censored, with the understanding that others have the right to block them.
@ZuzecaSape the pub can bar people, so can a forum.
you "free speech" guys are generally just entitled and spoilt. You never fight for the freedom of opinions you find detestable, it's just a virtuous banner you hide behind.
none of the "big names" even believe in it either, it's just a slogan for the right to rally behind.
@bastion I understand you're making a generalization. I, for one, do encourage and defend free speech in all its forms, even speech I find detestable. If you've viewed my conversations with people I disagree with, you'd see I walk the talk. I believe the best defense against misinformation is to confront it in the free market of ideas, not to suppress it.

Jokes aside, censorship does suck but I guess you have to draw the line somewhere otherwise the biggest trolls take over (not saying Alfredo was one). I'm guessing maybe he went in too hard on personal attacks...
A shame though, some of his posts were fun in the comment section, and there are definitely people around that only post to be obnoxious/annoying and constantly troll...

My philosophy is, I always have the option of blocking a troll. I feel the responsibility is on me, as the audience, to choose what I listen to ... not on the venue, as manager, to decide what I should or should not be exposed to.
@ZuzecaSape excellent point. I guess the only reason to ban some one would be if they were doxxing someone or doing something illegal...

political correctness = personal censorship
forums have always had rules.
pubs and bars eject people for shouting nonsense. it's always been the case.
it's only "poltical correctness" when you don't care about it. You'd want a Jihadi recruiter or someone shouting BLM or antifa slogans kicked out of any public place you were in.
it's only "political correctness" when you agree with what's being said and don't want it stopped.
