A few years ago a white guy was running for office in the South. He had a black sounding name so he had a black guy appear in all his advertisements in order to get the black vote. Unfortunately, I don't know if it worked.

I don’t doubt this happened. I also don’t doubt this happened on the other side of the aisle. All attempts to wrongly influence the voters should be called out and all illegal attempts to change the outcome should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
This looks clear that somebody was preying on the ignorant voters that vote based on name recognition with no idea of the issues. Or maybe it’s preying on those who can’t follow the simple instructions about who they were told to vote for.
