Here's the thing: that would only prove that we have renounced to common sense in favor of accepting "facts" from authorities so we don't have to bother using our brains. That would actually be the base premise of American being worse than those countries in the past. Lack of access to information is a justification, it's not their fault. Being lazy and failing to think about the content you consume simply isn't. Don't you agree?

@A1fredo I would agree that the people in the countries you cited suffered from having only one source of information - The State. We are inundated with multiple sources of information, but most people aren’t willing to sort through them by critically thinking about issues; whatever I feel must be true, and I don’t need to listen to any evidence to the contrary. People simply filter out what challenges their worldview, and so they only seek out sources of information that reinforce their biases. Tyranny vs. Tribalism. Which do you prefer?

@Jmann44492403 I find them both to be the same thing as I'm an outcast, and the tyranny of the majority is a real thing. But, why would we have to choose? I know what you are saying, but the lack of critical thinking when sorting all those sources of information out is a choice, not a technological inevitable imposition. I can grant to people that being unaware of the challenges that were about to come with social media is definitely unfair, so it is understandable. But, how would you justify the people on the left who have been told over and over all the reasoning of why they are wrong, but choose to stay willfully ignorant? I understand why, it's emotionally taxing to try to change their worldview and they rely on their emotions to validate information. That's not an excuse though. It would be like justifying rapists just because their bodies made them feel the urge to rape. People need to learn how to become civilized despite their feelings, and I'm saying that as an extremely emotional person. That being said, people on the right aren't really doing anything about it either. I don't think that just putting their faith in voting for Trump outsourcing their responsibility as part of a community to a single person as if he was Superman, is justifiable either. I'm imagining the future like in those Communist cities, I can totally see the right acting as the left demands them to keeping their heads down. It's even more surprising to me that people who actually know history and know what's so dangerous about all of this aren't willing to do any more than the leftists who at least are being lazy instead of negligent. It seems worse to me.

So if you think Venezuela is terrible, and you think people rallying for social justice both there and in the USA means America is heading towards Communism... then fundamentalists in America using the same tactics as fundamentalists in the Middle East means the USA is heading towards a theocracy.

@A1fredo I have to disagree with you there. Social justice is how we ended slavery, gave women the right to vote, allowed mixed-race and same-sex couples the right to marry, allowed people to not be arrested in their own homes from consensual sex, etc.

@JacksonNought Man... Just check out the Social Justice agenda. It's all wrong. This is clearly not the same thing. Either their leaders are that stupid, or there's something fishy behind it. There was something fishy behind it in Venezuela. Social Justice has its roots in Communism. Are you for its goals, really?

Can you explain what the "post"-modern version of communism is? I'm a bit in the dark here.
