Folks this is 3.13 Ba ba BILLION dollars appropriated for DEA in FY 2019

Add to that huge sum of money the costs of policing, street/drug gang violence, human suffering, peripheral / related crime, plus costs to prosecute and imprison drug offenders.
I think it would be a good guess to say we spend upwards of 10 billion dollars annually on drug interdiction and enforcement. What a waste!

I submit that like the end of Prohibition (alcohol) de-criminalization of weed and other drugs will remove the profit motive for illegal drug trafficking. IMHO this would all but completely eliminate the "drug cartels" as well and by extension would greatly mitigate if not eliminate the bloody violence associated with the cartels.

American street gangs will have to find other ways to make money because legalization completely eliminated profiteering in the illicit drug trade.

The total budget of the DEA from 1972 to 2014, according to the agency website, was $50.6 billion. The agency had 11,055 employees in 2014. For the year 2014 the average cost per arrest made was $97,325 - and I don't think this figure includes things like court costs, costs for incarceration etc.

this would be the only thing with which I would agree coming out of K Harris. In fact I would be glad to see de-criminlaization of all recreational use of "drugs".
Of course if or when that ever happened (not any time soon) I would insist that we also eliminate DEA and all other Gov't drug interdiction organizations.

Ah, her stock options in Monsanto/Bayern must have been approved. That is the only reason besides trying to curry votes with folks have a good point that it should be legal but most don't know what they are getting is not natural plant but a frankenstien with some interesting issues with physiological addiction.
