I think the narrative of resistance against poorly motivated state overreach is one Marvel has tried desperately to depict without being conservative appearing. It's pretty tough.
That said I don't think they did a terrible job but they certainly did a fantastic job of making a "Captain America" without the nationalism that wasn't a complete fucking joke. That I liked.
Further, arguably more importantly, 2012 Cap for the win and America is the greatest nation in the history of the world in design and possibly the absolute worst in execution. The degree to which America continues to produce incredible value despite the obscenely poor execution of it's ideals, philosophy and values is an indisputable demonstration of it's virtue. Come at me.

I’m a huge fan of most of Marvel’s Avengers flicks. That said, the old adage, a picture is worth a thousand words, is more true than it has ever been. Narrative may appear agreeable and innocuous, while unremarked images bypass cognitive filters. Remember, the original experiments in the psychological influence (mind control) of subliminal imagery from last century?
