I've never believed in Darwinian evolution. It's so full of flaws; It explains nothing and predicts nothing. And that means it's not really a theory at all, just a notion without any empirical support.
The idea that life on Earth, and human life in particular may not be a random accident drives most leftists nuts. It's as if they need things to be, undirected and ultimately pointless. Or, as Richard Dawkins put it "we're all just lumbering robots programmed by our DNA."

If I were convinced of ID I'm not sure how it might affect my own manner of being. I mean, that wouldn't prove God exactly, but instead only cause and effect, which is the assumption that the modern age makes about reality anyway. ID in and of itself isn't enough to change much culturally.
What do you think?

Intelligent design would indicate the presence of a "designer". I wonder if this would influence cultural standards of right and wrong, i.e., moral relativism?
Both liberals and conservatives have reason to dislike "Darwinism"
Liberals want to believe that anyone can be trained and conservatives want to believe that laziness accounts for most failures. The extremes to which they will go is illustrated by Gould's attempt to validate some aspects of Marxist theory with "punctuated equilibrium".
It is also the case that Humanism or the worship of the goddess of reason is competing with traditional religions. Adherents of both Humanism and traditional religions are going to resist some aspects of Darwinism. For humanists it is particularly group selection and for conservatives randomness.
There is general misunderstanding of the role that mathematics and modeling plays in science. In the West we continue to suffer from the influence of Plato's pure reason. Mathematics and models are only as good as their ability to predict observations. Every theory starts with experience. Either directly or indirectly through external experience. What goes on inside the brain is the reordering of experience. No amount of logic is a substitute for experience in it's broadest sense.

I feel like evolution, even if wrong, is a decent model and seems to make effective predictions.
Every scientific model is technically "wrong". Although they won't admit it every scientist in his or her heart knows it's a question of accuracy and precision. Some measurements are extremely accurate, such as the speed of light, most of biology not so much. We haven't had absolute "truths" since Newton.
It's just a theory is while grossly misleading none the less true. By the same logic relativity is just a theory.
