Sexual maturity is not the same as intellectual and judgment maturity. Lifespans were often short until the last 150 or so years, and the need to continue the species was the primary focus. That meant that 14-16 YO girls were married off, and often for money if that was an option in the social class at issue. Considering that the urge to fuck is pretty strong by then, and that at least in western societies the inheritance issues were critical (transfer of property), it was of societal value to know whose kids were whose.
Those incentives do not exist today, and we understand more about the development of the brain. I've been far too willing to put out for women I find interesting/attractive, but that does not mean that I should be banging some HS/college woman with whom I have little in common based on life experience. I did not sign up for Arielle's OnlyFans because I felt like it would make me some old internet creeper, even though I was and am curious.
