Is there any decent opposition to Trump for 2020?

I seriously doubt it. If there is, it's unlikely to be a Democrat. Trump was elected because the left has been pushing an agenda that is unacceptable to large swaths of the country for far too long and Republicans were too spineless to do anything about it. The Democrats will nominate someone that will continue to push that agenda. If there is a primary opposition to Trump, he'll make them appear spineless and they probably will be. It'll be someone that says things like we have to work together, We have to compromise. Republican voters have been fed that line for too long. It's not likely to take hold. It sure didn't in 2016 and times haven't changed that much.

Republicans sowed the wind by continually compromising on what many of their voters really wanted and they reaped the whirlwind in Trump. The same can be said for Democrats not compromising on those issues.

It's not that Trump is perfect. His supporters, know he's an imperfect vessel but, who else is even trying on things like controlling the borders? Who else is pushing for rolling back regulations? Who else is putting America ahead of the UN and other international organizations? Who else is against one-sided trade deals?

An opposition primary candidate can campaign on what Trump didn't accomplish. Trump probably won't get the wall but, no one can say he didn't try. He can point to the judges he appointed. He can point to tax cuts, He can point to deregulation. The problem is that Trump has made progress on the issues that he campaigned on. He's made more progress on those issues than any previous Republican that campaigned on them. That's why his poll numbers never shift. While those numbers are not a majority, they are geographically distributed in a way that makes him tough to beat in the electoral college.

Now the more interesting possibility might be that Trump chooses not to run in 2020. Then the Republicans are going to be in real disarray and if they nominate someone like a Romney, or JEB!, there's an opening for a third party but, I wouldn't count on it.

It depends on your politics. He's not my first choice, but Pete Buttigieg seems to have some crossover appeal with evangelical Christians and is currently surging in the polls. He's a vet and he talks about his faith a lot.

Also, Bill Weld just entered the Republican primary. [washingtonpost.com]

He might get a few evangelicals but, I'm not so sure a gay married man can make a lot of headway there yet. Being a Mormon gave Romney some trouble with that group when he ran in the primary in 2008. By 2012 after 4 years of Obama, they were more receptive.

Tulsi Gabbard is a vet that is anti war, I can agree with her there

After this last couple weeks Trump might be unstoppable. (Excuse the hyperbole.)

If someone could resurrect President Harding from the grave I would vote for him. As for all the current members of the GOP ... no. As for the DNC's stable of socialists ... hell no.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Jeanine Pirro, Steven Chrowder, Jo Dan Gorman,
Unfortunately they either work for him or support him.

Not pushovers, are they?
