California Gov Gavin Newsom signs law to eventually ban gas-powered lawn equipment

Gas-powered equipment includes generators, lawn equipment, pressure washers, chainsaws, weed trimmers and even golf carts
Under the new law the machinery will have to be battery-powered or plug-in

So Newsom restricts electricity production to undependable renewal resources. Now will prevent sales of generators people could use to fill in during power interruptions.

There are 3 separate issues:

*) Gasoline vs. electric

*) Noise

*) Simplicity of the device

Consumers should be able to use gasoline, unless a community decides it values silence. It's impossible to make a small gasoline engine that is quiet, and this is the value of batteries. One could imagine a community requiring electric lawn equipment for reasons of quietness.

Batteries are also needed for light vehicles such as scooters.

It's way easier to make an electric device than a gasoline device. Way fewer moving parts.

The thing that makes possible electric devices is the fact that lithium-ion batteries have a large energy/mass. They have enough energy for a lawnmower to mow an acre.

Cities are noisy and cityfolk have brain damage from it. Ruralfolk enjoy quietness.

In New York City, there are jerks that drive around making as much noise as they can with their vehicles. Civilization is breaking down.

The energy expended per km is proportional to speed squared. Batteries are incapable of long-distance freeway driving. Gasoline will always be needed.

Electric aircraft are great because they're simple and they can have lots of propellers. They can go 200 km and no further. Long-range aircraft require gasoline. Also, moving at Mach .9 (commercial aircraft speed) requires gasoline.

Newsom restricted gamestations to 200 Watts. That will trigger a revolt. The speed of a gamestation is proportional to the power it uses. What Newsom did is like restricting cars to 50 horsepower.

Well, of course he does. His relatives have already invested in the green crappola nonsense. This hammers the competition so they will get even more $$. That is the purpose of this green stuff required by law -- kill off competition. It is never a choice, you are required -- for the good of someone who doesn't exist.

Gave-in Nuisance won't have to worry about it since the people who take care of his landscaping are likely to be exempt.

Could the state of California get anymore backwards? With that said, I'm sure Newsom will dream up even more looney legislation in due time.
