I would say that he is much more like a Kennedy era Democrat, who is significantly to the right of most of today's GOP.

Most of his official actions in office have been pretty conservative, but I don't think he's the one to credit. I think it's mostly been Pence and the Cabinet doing their thing while Trump acts as the front man. I don't think he has any real philosophical foundations.

I'm inclined to agree with you on that.

Well, let's analyze his policies:
Border Security: you have to say Republican
Reducing regulations: very Republican
Lowering taxes: Republican
Foreign relations: Conservative
Military strength: very Republican
Flag hugging, fast food loving, sports fan: sounds Republican to me
Against Obamacare: not socialist
Pro gun: Republican
Against abortion: Republican
Pro Israel: Republican
Pro Freedom of Speech: Republican
Pro business: Republican
Pro personal freedom: Republican

Am I wrong? Lay out my errors, if so. Also point out any Democrat party ideals that Trump is for. There probably are some.

Republican party line doesn't mean conservative. He passed unconstitutional weapons bans, he has imposed tariffs which is just artificially inflating the cost of goods and services not very conservative. Fully intends on increasing the debt. I never said he wasn't Republican I said he's not a conservative constitutionally fiscally or otherwise

@Rus-T-Balls I'm new on the Right side of the aisle, having only been here about as long as Trump has been POTUS. Not sure what the actual difference is between conservative and Republican. I thought they were conjoined in some way. No?

@Bumpkin111 it gets conflated because typically Republicans are "more" conservative. There's a few different flavors of conservativism. There's fiscal, pretty straight forward balanced budgets economic freedom. There's social conservative over simply putting it that's the southern Baptist type. And my personal favorite and subjectively feel it's the most important for our leaders. Constitutional, that's the ability to see freedom is scary. The founders knew that we needed tension, a struggle to become stronger, a constitutional conservative supports individual liberty over a collective mentality.
And I'm not going to try and state what it is to be Republican, I've got a theory, but they don't seem to have a consensus so I won't even try. One of my favorite quotes is from Ben Franklin and he said "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

@Rus-T-Balls My husband has always told me I'm a Libertarian because I believe so strongly in individual sovereignty and the right to own property and to use all it's resources as seen fit by the owner, not the "state"; I believe that government is here for one basic purpose and that is to protect our borders which protects the citizens from unfriendly foreign incursions, and of course then to make laws to protect citizens and oversee the Judiciary. So that's a whole different thing than "conservative ", isn't it?

@Bumpkin111 they are lots of libertarians are conservative and many conservatives do hold those individual liberty values

@Rus-T-Balls yes I'm sure there are many areas of agreement and disagreement on specific points. But in general I'm for freedom of the individual. The collective is a construct. the individual is, might I say, divine. (Small d.) What are boundaries if your very soul is and always has been free! Yet paradoxically our human forms don't care for discomfort. So we traded our soul, so to speak, for some comfort or other and now we are permanently slaves to that desire and will cast aside any reason or logic to obtain it.

He identified himself as having Democratic views to CNN years before he ran. He is definitely an Independent thinker. I believe that he is more Libertarian than he is Republican.

How does he respect the individual, he's a crony capitalist. If you agree with him he will promote your business if you disagree with him watch out

It’s funny because he used to be liberal but when you look at his policies, he’s quite a conservative

I think he's done a lot of good I don't know how many of policies are actually conservative

A lot of us use to be liberal, then we grew up!!

Trumps actions on Abortion, business regulations, military support, immigration, defense of religions, judicial nominations are all conservative

@Clammypollack you may be conflating conservative for Republican. He's expanding, debt the national control of industries

@Rus-T-Balls I don’t think I am. I know he’s increasing our debt which is not what A conservative does but his stances and actions on those other issues I mentioned are conservative

@Clammypollack tariffs? Gun bans? But we can agree to disagree
