Freedom of religion cannot and should not be a one way street.

Our daughter was born by Cesarean section in 1975. Our family doctor was Roman Catholic and he recommended that my wife have no more children. He performed the C section but said that because of his faith he could not tie her tubes so he had another doctor present to complete that part of the procedure. He was a person of faith and yet was able to respect our beliefs.

Why are some people able to demand respect for their beliefs, supported by court orders, yet not have to respect others beliefs? There are many different faiths in the world and according to each faith's believers their faith is the only true faith, everyone else's is wrong. What would happen if Muslims, Shinto, Native American religions, Wicken, Universalists, Hindu, Judaism, Sikhism, Taoism, Jainism and even the Church of the Sub-Genius demanded that everyone respect the tenets of their religions and make accommodation for their beliefs? The courts would probably come up with ways to ignore those demands. Without courts respecting all demands we do not have freedom of religion. When did intolerance become acceptable for one group?
