Democrats these days are quick to oppose anything the other side favors...

Science and data say school reopening is safe, so why do Democrats oppose it?

I think your observation is spot on. There is no logic to the words and actions of the socialist party -formerly known as the democrat party.
If Trump or the Republicans proposed a new car in every garage, free everything to every body and open borders Nancy and all the rest would "strongly disapprove"

Exactly. My late father was a lifelong Democrat, had he still been living he would be appalled at what the Democrats have become.

Science and data also say school reopening is not safe. Depends on where you look and what you want to believe. Of course belief that lightning could never strike you does not make you safe from lightning. Today any subject can have two opposing sides that contradict each other because there is no incentive to be factual, only to be satisfying to your audience. It is the audience's responsibility to search for the more reliable data. There is seldom data that closes an argument as complex as this, anyone who claims that it is definitive that schools are safe to open is misleading, not fully informed, don't care or are pushing an agenda.

True, the science could support either side, so guess we should leave the decision to the individuals directly involved. See, my gripe here is not what the science says per se but rather how Democrats are overreacting to the situation. Provided the children wear masks and keep a distance at all times, there's really no good reason why they couldn't return to school in September.

@SpikeTalon Overreaction is one of the behaviors that is exacerbating the divisiveness in our country. People decide that there is this one way things must be handled and no other way will work. We are unwilling to listen to each other and gain the wisdom to understand that we are imperfect and to assume we know THE answer is hubris and selfishness. There is rarely any definitive answer to any particular problem but today's society will not accept uncertainty and has to have a rock solid explanation. There is just as much overreaction from people who are unwilling to respect others and refuse to use masks because they don't believe it or it inconveniences them.

@Pand0ro Tell me something I didn't already know...
